일본 문학에 재현된 조선계 도공의 고향에 대한 문화지리학적 접근 - 시바 료타로의 소설 『고향을 어이 잊으리까(故鄕忘じがたく候)』를 중심으로 -

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 조선계 도공인 14대 심수관(沈壽官)의 이야기를 다룬 시바 료타로의 소설 『고향을 어이 잊으리까(故鄕忘じがたく候)』가 조선계 도공의 고향을 재현하는 양상을 분석하는데 있다. 『고향을 어이 잊으리까』는 조선 도공의 고향을 재현한 일본 소설이라는 점에서, 문학지리학 텍스트로서의 의미가 적지 않다고 판단된다. 텍스트 분석은 반 매넌(van Manen) 현상학을 바탕으로 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 『고향을 어이 잊으리까』의 고향 재현 양상을 크게 4개의 주제로 분류할 수 있었다. 첫째, 피랍 조선인의 망향이 장소 기억으로 재현된 장소와 경관의 성격을 가진다. 둘째, 일본 속 조선인으로서의 고난과 이에 대한 극복의 무대로서의 의미를 가진다. 셋째, 단순한 혈연적 기원지 또는 망향과 향수의 대상을 넘어, 도예가 정체성이 발원 및 형성된 장소와 경관으로서의 의미를 가진다. 넷째, 한국에 대한 망향과 사쓰마 도예가로서의 정체성이 복합적 재현된 장소와 경관이라는 특징을 가진다. 이 같은 연구 결과는 문학작품이 고향이라는 장소와 경관을 재현하는 방식과 양상을 이해하는데 의미있는 함의를 제공하리라고 기대된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the representation of homeland among the descendants of KoreanJapanese potters in Ryōtarō Shiba’s novel The Heart Remembers Home, which narrates the story of 14th Su-gwan Shim (Jukan Chin), a representative Korean-Japanese potter. The Heart Remembers Home is a meaningful literary and geographical text because it is a Japanese novel representing the homeland of Korean-Japanese potters. The pertinent data in the novel were analyzed using Max van Manen’s phenomenology. It was found that the representation of homeland in the novel was categorized into the following four themes. First, the homeland consisted of the places and landscapes represented as place memory in the nostalgia of Su-gwan Shim’s ancestors. Second, the homeland was represented as the spatial context as the place where Korean-Japanese people overcame their afflictions and difficulties in Japan. Third, the representation of the homeland was closely related to Su-gwan Shim’s and his ancestors’ potter identities. Fourth, the representation of the homeland was based on the complex identities of a Korea-originated Japanese potter. These findings are expected to suggest meaningful implications that would facilitate in understanding the representation of the place and landscape of the homeland in The Heart Remembers Home.
