종교이념을 통해 본 유대교의 교육문화 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 <모세오경>, 즉 <토라>에 반영된 유대교의 이념을 고찰하고, 그로부터 도출되는 교육문화를 살펴본 것이다. 유대교의 이념은 첫째, 삶의 새로운 출발이자 거룩한 삶을 통해 구원을 염원하는 ‘경건함’을 내세운다. 둘째, 모세가 하나님으로부터 <율법>을 받은 믿음에서 유발된 ‘선민의식’을 지닌다. 셋째, 현세에서 인간이 행하는 모든 일은 내세의 삶 못지않게 중요하 다는 현세 지향성이다. 이러한 종교이념에 기초하여 유대교는 다음과 같은 네 가지의 교육문화를 형성한다. 첫째, 토라의 가르침을 통해 초기 교육의 양식을 드러냈다. 둘째, <모세오경>의 해석을 통해 유대교를 종교를 넘어선 교육으로 발전시켰다. 셋째, <탈무드>의 해석과 문학적특징을 반영한 랍비들의 활동은 고유한 교육문화를 만들어냈다. 넷째, <탈무드>가 고정불변의 텍스트를 고수하지 않고 변화하는 시대 현실에 적응하려는 현실 지향적 교육을 창출하였다. 이러한 유대교의 교육문화가 지닌 특징은 지식 습득을 넘어 지혜를 배우고 깨닫는 작업이다. 토라와 <탈무드>를 중심으로 교육을 진행하는 유대교는 하나님에 대한 경외심과 선민의식을 바탕으로 유대 민족의 공동체적 삶을 강조한다.

영문 초록

This study has been conducted to investigate the religious ideology of Judaism reflected in the Pentateuch, the Torah, and the educational culture derived from it. There are three different kinds of religious ideology of Judaism. First, a reverence is suggested as a symbol of a new beginning of life and a desire for salvation through holy life. Second, a sense of entitlement is derived from the faith that Moses received the law from God. Third, ‘the orientation of the here and now’ is emphasized which means that everything human does in this world is as important as that of the afterlife. On the basis of these kinds of religious ideology, Judaism proves the following four characteristics of the educational culture: First, it has established the early educational program through the teachings of Torah, and second, Judaism has been evolved into education from religion through the interpretation of the Pentateuch. Third, the activities of rabbi have developed its own educational culture reflecting the interpretation of Talmud and its literary features, and fourth, the reality-oriented educational culture has been generated for the purpose of adapting to the face-paced world rather than adhering to the original text. In the end, these characteristics of the Jewish education have concluded that education focuses more on recognizing and realizing wisdom than simply gaining a plenty of knowledge. The Jewish education based on Torah and Talmud emphasizes the community life of the Jewish people who are depended on the reverence for God and the sense of entitlement.
