국문 초록

본 연구는 다문화 가정의 상징적 상호작용 경험에 관한 사례연구를 통해 상징적 상호작용에 영향을 미치는 요소가 무엇이며, 그러한 상징적 상호작용을 통해 어떠한 경험을 하게 되는지를 알아보고자 한 것이었다. 세 사례를 중심으로 중요한 이슈를 파악하였으며, 이로 인해 나타난 특성으로는 ‘다문화라는 표현의 접촉’, ‘다문화라는 표현의 인식’, ‘부정적인 캐리커처’, ‘너는, 다문화아이’등 이었다. 첫째, 다문화라는 용어의 인식의 변화를 위한 노력을 제공해야 할 것이다. 사람은 ‘다문화’라는 용어의 사회적 의미를 제대로 이해하지 못하고 있으며, 이를 바로잡기 위한 어떠한 정책 및 실천을 위한 교육기회는 제공되지 않았다. 둘째, 다문화 가정 자녀들의 상호작용에 영향을 미치는 요소로 드러난 부모의 능력, 학교 선생님들의 역할, 미디어에서의 표현에 있어서 긍정적인 이미지 반영을 위해 힘써야 할 것이다. 셋째, 기존 다문화가정의 지원에 있어서는 다문화 가정의 부모 특히, 어머니들에 대한 지원이 많았다. 이로 인해 다문화 가정 자녀들이 학교생활 및 또래집단, 사회적 인식 속에서 감당하기 힘든 다양한 문제를 겪으면서도 참고 견디고 있는 것으로 드러났다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to explore the symbolic interaction in multicultural families through case studies that investigate factors which influence symbolic interaction. Also, the study explores the resulting experiences through this type of symbolic interaction. By focusing on three central examples, key issues were identified. The resulting characteristics were ‘expression of multiculturalism’ , ‘perception of multiculturalism’, ‘negative caricature’, ‘You are a multicultural child’. First, efforts need to be made in order to change the perception of the word ‘multicultural’. Society lacks understanding of the sociological definition of the word ‘multicultural’, yet educational policies and actions are not provided to counter this lack of understanding. Second, additional efforts for spreading positive images in factors that prove influential to the interaction within multicultural children: the role of teachers, the efforts of parents, and the portrayal in the media. Third, it was found that currently a large range of support exists for multicultural families, especially for mothers. Many problems that children of multicultural families experience due to this support was revealed: difficulty in their school lives amongst peers and the general perception in society.
