글로벌 시대의 통일한국에 호응하는 국토지리〉 교육의 정향

국문 초록

국토는 일단의 사람들이 오랜 시간 속에서 역사적 경험을 함께 하고 문화와 가치관을 공유하며 집단적 정체성을 형성하는 토대 장소이다. 국내외를 불문하고 국토 교육은 주로지리교육이 담당해 왔다. 우리나라의 경우 초중등 교육과정에서 계열성을 확보하면서 고등학교「한국지리」 과목을 통해 집중적으로 실천해 왔다. 본 연구는 역대 교육과정에서 〈국토지리〉의 성격과 목표, 내용체계가 어떠하였고 어떻게 변화했는지를 고찰한후, ‘글로벌 시대의 통일한국’이라는 미래 환경에 호응할 수 있도록 〈국토지리〉교육이 새롭게 정향하여야 함을 주장하였다. 이를 위해 필요한 네 가지 주요 논제를 제안하였다: 「한국지리」에서 「국토지리」로의 과목명 변경, 헤트너식 도식으로부터의 탈피와 대안모색, 지리적 논리가 충만한 국토인문학으로의 재탄생, 국경을 넘어 글로벌 이슈를 담아내는 〈국토지리〉 교육. 통일한국은 곧 통일국토를 의미하므로, 연구자는 통일한국이라는 새로운 환경에서 추구해야 할 ‘교육적 인간상’과 글로벌 시대를 선도할 ‘국가 시민이자 세계시민으로서의 정체성’을 설정함에 있어서 무엇보다 〈국토지리〉의 과목 성격과 내용체계를 혁신해야 할 것을 제안하였다. 특히 이러한 작업에 있어서 국수주의적 국토관을 경계하고, 국토인문학을 토대로 과목의 본질적 성격을 회복하며, 닫힌 국토 개념에서 벗어나 글로벌 장소감을 함양하도록 돕는 일의 중요성을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

Homeland is a place like a base camp in which a group of people have shared historical experiences, cultures and values, and collective identities. At home and abroad, geography education has been mainly responsible for teaching and learning on homeland in school curriculum, and in case of our country, the education of homeland has been practiced intensively through high school 「Geography of Korea」(Regional Geography of Korea) courses while ensuring sequences through elementary and middle school curriculum. The author investigates the nature, goals and contents framework of〈Geography of Homeland〉 including 「Geography of Korea」 courses in the past curriculums, insists that the education should be newly oriented to respond to the new environment of UniKorea in a global era, and proposes four main topics for this purpose: Changing the subject name 「Geography of Korea」into 「Geography of Homeland」; Escaping from the so-called ‘Hettner scheme (i. e. Länderkundliche Schema) and Seeking alternatives; Revival as a ’humanities of homeland’ through making up the homeland stories with a variety of geographical logics; Transition to 〈Geography of Homeland〉 that brings global issues across borders. Since the UniKorea means the unified lands of our country, it is so important to establish the ‘educational ideal of human’ to be pursued in a new environment of UniKorea and ‘identity as a citizen of both a nation and the world’ that the author suggested that the subject nature and contents framework of should be innovated. In particular, the researcher emphasized the importance of helping to nurture the global sense of place, to restore the essential character of the subject based on the national humanities, and to beware of the closed nationalistic view of homeland in this work.
