교수-학생 상호작용과 대학 몰입에 대한 대학 특성화사업의 성과분석

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 한국교육개발원의 대학생 교수학습과정 조사도구를 활용하여 교수-학생 상호작용과 대학 몰입을 중심으로 대학 특성화사업(CK 사업)의 효과를 평가하였다. 이때 CK 사업 참여대학 내 특성화사업단 소속 학생과 사업에 속하지 않은 일반 학생의 종속변수의 차이를 사업의 성과로 정의하고, 대학생이 대학에 내재되어 있는 자료의 특성을 반영하기 위하여 다층모형을 적용하였고, 이 중 대학별 CK 사업 성과와 관련된 대학 특성 변수를 탐색하기 위하여 무전절편-무선기울기 모형을 적용하였다. 분석결과, 동일대학 내에서 CK 사업에 참여한 학생들이 참여하지 않은 학생들에 비하여 보다 활발한 교수-학생 상호작용을 하고 있었고, 대학 몰입의 정도도 높았다. 이러한 경향은 성별이나 부의 교육연한, 전공계열 등의 학생 변수와 대학 설립유형, 대학 소재지, 대학 규모 등의 대학의 구조적 변수를 통제한 이후에도 여전히 유의미하였다. CK 사업의 성과는 대학별로 유의미하게 차이가 났으며, 국립대에 비하여 사립대에서, 그리고 수도권대에 비하여 지방대에서 대학 몰입에 대한 CK 사업의 효과가 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 교수-학생 상호작용에 대한 CK 사업의 효과는 대학의 구조적 변수와 유의미한 관계가 없었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 대학교육의 질 제고를 위한 대학의 노력과 정부 재정지원사업의 개선 방안에 대하여 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the effectiveness of the CK project from the aspect of teaching and learning experiences of college students with special emphasis on student-faculty interaction and institutional commitment using data from National Assessment of Student Engagement in Learning(NASEL). In specific, this study analyzed differential experiences of participating students and non-participating students. In doing so, this study used the group of students who were enrolled in the CK participant universities but whose departments’ did not participate in the CK project as a comparison group. Multi-level modeling with random intercept and random slope was employed in order to explore institutional influences on the effectiveness of the CK project. Results show that students participating in the CK project tend to interact with faculty more actively and to have stronger institutional commitment than their counterparts attending the same university but belonging to different departments. And this finding was valid even after controlling for the effect of individual characteristics including gender, father’s education, academic major and institutional structures indicated by control, location, and enrollment size. Notable in this study results is that the effectiveness of the CK project varied across different institutions; in the institutional commitment model, private universities and non-Seoul metropolitan universities showed more effectiveness than public universities and Seoul metropolitan universities respectively. However, institutional influence on the effectiveness of the CK was not found in the student-faculty interaction model. Based on these results, implication was discussed on the issues of student-faculty interaction and institutional commitment and how to improve government funding projects for universities.
