『瑜伽論記』에 나타난 圓測의 위상

국문 초록

遁倫의 『瑜伽論記』에는 新·舊 유식학자들의 이역본 연구 성과들이 집대성되어 있다. 이 중에서 圓測의 해석은 특히 「本地分」 중 「菩薩地」의 주석에 집중적으로 인용되어 있고, 이곳은 『地持經』·『善戒經』이라는 구역 별행본이 존재하는 구간이다. 이곳에 인용된 원측의 해석들을 검토해본 결과, 唐代 『유가론』 이역본 연구에서 원측의 위상 및 특징을 발견할 수 있었다. 우선, 눈에 띠는 것은 원측이 「보살지」의 두 종류 이역본들에 대해 동등한 경전적 권위를 부여한 점이다. 이것은 다른 주석가들이 「보살지」의 해석에서 그것과 거의 유사한 『지지경』만을 주로 참고하였고 『선계경』을 거의 언급하지 않았던 점에 비추어 볼 때 원측만의 이례적 태도라 할 수 있다. 원측은 두 경전을 유식학의 주요한 교리 해석의 전거로서 동등하게 함께 인용하거나, 나아가 『선계경』을 전거로 삼아서 「보살지」의 문구에 대한 독자적 해석을 내놓기도 한다. 또 원측은 신역 「보살지」의 ‘五種性說’을 교리적으로 정당화하는 일차적 전거로 구역 『지지경』과 『선계경』을 적극 활용하였다. 그런데 이것은 그가 ‘五性各別說’과 ‘一切皆成說’ 중 전자를 지지했음을 뜻하지 않는다. 그는 신역의 五種性說을 정설로 수용하면서도 ‘無種性’의 成佛 여부를 둘러싼 논쟁과 관련해서는 여전히 해석의 여지를 남겨놓았다. 그에 따르면, 『瑜伽論』이나 『楞伽經』처럼 五種性을 설한 경론들 내에서도 ‘無種性’의 문제와 관련해서는 전자의 ‘不成’과 후자의 ‘皆成’이라는 관점의 차이가 존재한다.

영문 초록

Before the new version of the Yugaron(瑜伽論)(Skt. Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra), in China, for about 200 years, the research results that had been based on another version of this literature had been accumulated. In the Yuganon-gi(瑜伽論記) by Dunryun(遁倫), the interpretation by Woncheuk(圓測) has especially been intensively distributed in the annotations of the Bosalji(菩薩地) in the Bonjibun(本地分). And this Bosalji, the Jiji-gyeong(地持經), and the Seongye-gyeong(善戒經) are other versions of the same text. As a result of examining Woncheuk’ interpretations, in the research of other versions of Yugaron, the status and the special features of Woncheuk could be discovered. Firstly, noteworthy feature is that Woncheuk granted the equal authority of scripture to the two different version of the Bosalji. In the Bosalji annotations, the Yugaron researchers had mainly referred to the Jiji-gyeong which is nearly similar to the Bosalji, and the Seongye-gyeong had nearly not been mentioned. But Woncheuk quoted the two scriptures together equally as an important authority on the doctrine interpretation of the Yogacāra Thought. Or, by making the Seongye-gyeong as the authority, he presented the independent interpretation regarding the words in the Bosalji. Also, as the primary authority that doctrinally justifies the theory of Five Spiritual Faculties(五種性說) in the Bosalji, Woncheuk had aggressively utilized the old versions. But he left the room for the interpretation in relation to whether the nature lacking the capacity for enlightenment(無種性) can attain the Buddhahood. Like the Yugaron and the Reungga-gyeong(楞伽經(Skt. Laṅkȃvatāra-sūtra)), within Yogacāra texts which mentioned the five Spiritual Faculties, there is a difference from the former view point of ‘The nature lacking the Buddhahood existing’ and the latter viewpoint of ‘Everyone can attain the Buddhahood’.
