영문 초록

The point of this paper is as follows. First, expansion policy of modern Japan was an important cause of reorganization of the East Asian order. Senkaku, Dokdo(Takeshima), Kando conflict are all territorial issues caused by the unilateral actions in accordance with Japan’s expansion policy. Dispite the temporal differences in Dokdo and Senkaku cases, the two issues have the pattern of war -> territory annexation -> consolidation -> annexation of neighboring countries. The Kando issue has a similar pattern, too. Second, Japan had gradually relying on international law in handling on territorial issues. The Senkaku case proceeded in secrecy. The Dokdo case was handled in accordance with the international law of terra nullius preemption. The Kando case was signed as a formal treaty with China and made an announcement to international society. The three cases reveal the process of Japan’s adaptation to the modern international law. Finally, discussion of the Dokdo issue circa 1905 should be avoided. The Dokdo issue should be discussed in association with the official order of Dajokan of 1887 and Japan’s annexation of Dokdo in 1905 within the historical context of border delimitation between Korea and Japan.
