국문 초록

개항기 한국의 국제관계는 제국주의 열강들의 영향력에 의해 변화되고 있었다. 이 시기 국제정세는 한국, 중국, 일본 등의 동북아지역 국가들이 러시아의 남하정책을 우려하고 있었다. 동북아지역 국가들과 이해관계를 가지고 있던 영국, 중국, 일본, 미국 등은 러시아에 대한 적대인식을 가지고 있었다. 19세기 말 동북아시아에서 러시아는 자국의 이익과 관련하여 부동항을 확보해야 하였다. 당시 러시아 정부의 당면과제는 다른 국가의 간섭과 침략 의도로부터 한국을 방어하면 서 한국에 대한 러시아의 정치적․군사적․경제적 영향력을 강화하는 것이었다. 이러한 과제를 해결하기 위해 러시아 정부에서는 관리와 장교들을 한국에 파견하여 한국의 상황을 파악할 필요성이 있었기에 탐사 및 조사 보고서와 출판물등이 나오게 되었다. 100여 년이 지난 현재 우리는 이와 같이 남아있는 저작물 들을 통해 당시 러시아인들의 한국에 대한 인식이 어떠했는지를 살펴볼 수 있게된 것에 의미를 부여해야 한다고 여겨진다. 이 글에서는 개항 이후 1880년대에 한국을 방문한 서양인 국가 중에 러시아인의 한국인식에 대해 연구해보고자 한다. 본 연구자는 1880년대 한국을 방문한 러시아인들 중에 러시아 장교인 베벨의 기록을 중심으로 방문 목적과 관심사를 분석하여, 러시아가 1880년대 당시 한국에 대해 인식한 바를 연구해보고자 한다. 베벨의 기록을 통해 보면, 러시아와 한국의 관계는 정치와 경제가 이어지는 관계로 볼 수 있다. 외교관계로 인한 경제적 관계 형성은 자원에 대한 관심, 유통과 관련된 사항에 대한 관심에서 찾을 수 있다. 그리고 베벨은 기록 속에 서양우월 의식을 남겼다. 대표적인 것이 신분에 따른 여행수단과 음식의 구분, 도로와 다리, 군사제도 등에도 나타내었다. 본 연구자는 베벨의 주요 관심사를 통해 방문 목적을 추론할 수 있다. 정치적 외교관계 형성과 경제적 자원과 유통 관련 조사, 군사제도를 통한 국방력 조사등이 베벨의 방문 목적이다. 분야별 관심사는 추후에 1880년대 한국을 방문한 러시아인들의 기록을 비교하는 연구로 진행할 것이다.

영문 초록

Opening port, Korea s international relations have been changed by the influence of imperialist powers. In this period, the Northeast Asian countries such as Korea, China, and Japan were worried about Russia s south policy. Britain, China, Japan, and the United States, which had interests in Northeast Asian countries, had hostile perceptions of Russia. At the end of the nineteenth century, in Northeast Asia, Russia had to secure free trade with its own interests. The challenge for the Russian government at the time was to strengthen Russia s political, military, and economic influence on Korea by defending Korea from the interference and intentions of other nations. In order to solve these problems, the Russian government had to send officials and officers to Korea to understand the situation in Korea, so that exploration and research reports and publications came out. More than 100 years later, it is believed that we should give meaning to the way in which we can see what the Russians were aware of at that time through the remaining works. In this article, I will try to study the Korean perception of the Russians among the western nation who visited Korea in the 1880s. This researcher will focus on the records of the Russian officer F. Vebeli<Ф.М.Вебель> among the Russians who visited Korea in the 1880s. This article analyzed the purpose and interests of visitors by focusing on F. Vebeli s records. I want to study what Russia recognized about Korea in the 1880s. F. Vebeli s record shows that the relationship between Russia and Korea can be seen as a relationship between politics and economy. Formation of economic relations due to diplomatic relations can be found in interest in resources and interest in matters related to distribution. And F. Vebeli left Western supremacy in the record. Typical examples include the distinction between travel and food according to status, roads and bridges, and military systems. The researcher can infer the purpose of the visit through the F. Vebeli s main interests. Investigation of political and diplomatic relations, investigation of economic resources and distribution, and investigation of defense forces through military system are the objectives of the visit. Interests in the field will be studied to compare records of Russians who visited Korea in the 1880s.
