지식의 두 측면: 실과교육에서 실천의 의미

국문 초록

이 연구는 교과의 목적에 대한 오우크쇼트의 주장, 즉 교과의 목적은 세계에 대한 이해이며, 이해하였다는 것은 정보를 획득하였다는 것 이외에 무엇인가를 할 수 있다는 판단을 동시에 요구한다는 것을 근거로 실과교육의 목적을 재정립하고 재정립된 목적을 실현하기 위해 실과교육 실천이 주목해야 할 것에 대해 탐색하였다. 지식은 언어로 명문화하여 일러줄 수 있 는 ‘정보’와 명문화하여 일러줄 수 없는, 정보의 뒷면이나 밑면에 붙어 간접적으로 밖에 전달 될 수 없는 ‘판단’으로 나뉘며 판단의 교수는 가르치고 배우는 교수·학습의 주체자들 간의 적극적 참여를 통해 가능하다. 실과교육내용은 다른 교과교육내용과는 달리 명문화하여 일러주는 것만으로는 지식을 전달하기 어려우며, 실과교육내용이 의미를 갖는 삶의 맥락 하에서 교 사와 학생이 동참하면서 전달하고 전달받게 되는 특성을 갖는다. 실과교육 실천은 학교에서 실과교육내용을 가르치고 배우는 초등학교 실과교육 실천과 ‘학교에서 실과교육내용을 가르치고 배우는 일’을 조망하는 대학 또는 대학원에서의 실과교육 실천 즉 실과교육학으로 나뉜다. 전자인 초등학교 실과교육 실천은 인간 이해, 세계 이해를 도모함으로써 그 존재가 더 인간다워지며, 후자인 대학과 대학원에서의 실과교육 실천은 ‘실과 공부가 그런 일을 한다는 것을 알려주는 바로 그 역할’을 한다는 면에서 의미를 갖는다. 특히 지식의 두 측면에 근거하여 실과교육 실천이 주목할 점은 첫째, 교과내용을 전수하는 목적은 정보와 판단을 모두 전달하는 것이므로 현재 정보 전달에 치중해 있는 실과교육학의 역할과 가치에 대해 재정립할 필요가 있으며 둘째, 판단의 교수 가치 면에서 초등학교 실과교육 실천뿐 아니라 실과교육학의 실천에 있어서도 맥락적 경험, 사람과 사람 사이의 교섭을 강조해야 하고 이를 통해 실과교육에서 전달하고자 하는 지식의 이해가 가능함에 주목해야 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to redefine the purpose of practical arts education (PAE) and to clarify what PAE’s practices should focus on to realize the redefined purpose. This study was grounded in Oakshott s claim that the purpose of the subject is an understanding of the world, and the evidence of that understanding requires information and judgment at the same time. According to Oakshott (year?) , knowledge is divided into information that can be expressed in language and judgment which can not be expressed in language, so it can be only indirectly imparted on the back or bottom of information. He argued that the teaching of judgment was possible through teachers’ and learners’ active participation. Unlike other subject matters, practical arts subject is difficult to impart knowledges simply by expressing it in language. Teaching and learning practical arts subject matters are characterized by real- life and meaning coummunication among teachers and learners. Practical arts education practices are divided into PAE in elementary schools and PAE in universities or graduate schools. The former is to teach and learn practical arts subject matter in schools, and the latter is to review at ‘teaching and learning practical arts subject matter in the elementary schools’. PAE practices in elementary schools enable human beings to become more human through understanding of humans and the world. PAE practices in elementary schools enable human beings to become more human through understanding of humans and the world. PAE practices at universities and graduate schools play a role in telling PAE to make people more human. In particular, based on two aspects of knowledge, PAE practices should pay attention to the following: First, the purpose of conveying subject matter is to convey both information and judgment, so it is necessary to redefine the role and value of Pedagogy of Practical Arts. Second, in teaching value of judgments, contextual experience and negotiation between people and people are important.
