돈황사본 ≷본업영락경소(本業瓔珞經疏)≸ (Stein no.2748)의 사상사적 위치 * －인용문헌의 상관관계를 중심으로

국문 초록

본고는 돈황사본 S.2748에 인용된 문헌들의 고찰을 통해 그 사상사적 위치를 추적하 였다. 고찰 내용은 다음과 같다. 1) ≷본업경소≸에는 북조의 여러 경록에 기재된 경전들이 함께 인용되어 있으며, 그중에는 ≷선비보살경≸, ≷무진의경≸과 같이 이후 지론학파에서는 자주 사용되지 않는 경전들이 포함되어 있다. 다만 ≷무진의경≸의 경우 ≷대집경≸에 수록된 형태로 인용되었을 가능성이 있다.2) ≷본업경소≸에는 여러 부분에서 ≷십지경론≸이 인용되고 있다. 그 중 42계위설의 해석은 기본적으로 ≷영락본업경≸에 의지하고 있지만, 십지(十地) 부분만은 ≷십지경 론≸의 내용으로 주석되어 있다. 3) ≷본업경소≸와 ≷십지론의소≸는 거의 동일한 형태의 구절을 공유하고 있으며, 이것 으로 보았을 때 ≷본업경소≸가 법상(法上) 주변에서 성립되었을 가능성이 높다. 만약 이 구절을 기준으로 문헌 성립의 선후 관계를 배정할 수 있다면 ≷본업경소≸가 ≷십지론의소≸보다 선행한다고 판단할 수 있다. 4) ≷본업경소≸와 ≷십지론의소≸의 상응 구절에는 “초지에서 삼계를 벗어난다”는 지론학파의 설이 전제되어 있으며 이는 ≷본업경소≸의 작성 이전부터 지론학파의 교설이 성립되어 있었음을 보여준다. 다만 ≷본업경소≸에는 ≷영락본업경≸의 설을 따라 “7지에서 삼계를 벗어난다”는 설도 등장하기 때문에 당시 지론학파 내에서 두가지 설이 아직 정리되지 않은 채로 공존하고 있었다는 의미로도 해석할 수 있을 것이다. 5) ≷본업경소≸와 긴밀한 연관성을 보이는 문헌으로는 또 다른 돈황사본인 ≷인왕실 상론≸이 있다. 양 문헌은 분명한 상응 구절을 지니고 있으며, 서로 간에 참조해야만 이해될 수 있는 내용들을 담고 있다. 한편, ≷본업경소≸에는 다양한 방식으로 인용되고 있는 지론학파의 교리들이 ≷인왕실상론≸에는 전혀 나타나지 않는다는 점도 확인할 수 있었다. 이것은 두 문헌이 동일한 그룹에서 찬술되었다는 점, 그리고 동일한 그룹 안에서도 사상적인 변천과정이 일어난다는 점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to demonstrate the chronological position of a Dunhuang manuscript entitled Benyeyingluo-Jing-shu (≷ 本業瓔珞經疏 ≸, henceforth “S2748”), a commentary on a Chinese apocryphal canon Pusayingluobenye-Jing (≷ 菩薩瓔珞本 業經 ≸), in the Dilun texts of the early 6th Century Northern Dynasty ( 北朝 , Beichao). The results of this research can be summarized as follows: 1) All the Buddhist canons quoted in S2748 are listed in Sūtra Catalogs of the Northern Dynasty. Among them, the Laṅkāvatārasūtra (Rulengqie-jing, ≷ 入楞伽經 ≸) translated by Bodhiruci in 513 AD has the latest date of translation. Thus the composition date of S2748 should be no earlier than 513 AD. It is also noteworthy that S2748 uses what are rarely found in the later Dilun School, such as Shanbipusa-Jing (≷ 善臂菩薩經 ≸) and Wujinyi-Jing (≷ 無盡意經 ≸). 2) As might be expected from a Dilun text, S2748 refers to Daśabhūmikasūtraśāstra (Shidi-jinglun, ≷ 十地經論 ≸) throughout the manuscript. Moreover, S2748 gives priority to the Daśabhūmikasūtraśāstra over the Pusayingluobenye-Jing in doctrinal explanations. 3) S2748 shares an almost identical paragraph with Shidilunyishu (≷ 十地論義疏 ≸), a representative text of the early Dilun School. Comparing these paragraphs seems to suggest that S2748 was written earlier than the Shidilunyishu. 4) The identical paragraphs of the two texts both state that “the first stage Bodhisattva out of ten stages can break the binding of Saṃsāra”, which was a soteriological doctrine newly adopted in the Dilun School. However, another passage from S2748 argues that it is actually at the seventh stage of the Bodhisattva path when the bindings of Saṃsāra would loosen. These conflicting statements clearly imply that their doctrinal system had not yet been fully organized at the time of S2748’s composition. 5) Another Dunhuang manuscript, Renwangbanruo-shixianglun (≷ 仁王般若實相 論 ≸), shows an obvious correlation with S2748. These two texts are presumably founded in the same group though the Renwangbanruo-shixianglun seems to have been written before the Dilun School was established. It provides an interesting insight into the changing doctrinal identity of a certain group according to the propagation of new thoughts and soteriological devices.
