모범적인 초등 교사의 과학 수업에 대한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 모범적인 초등 교사로 알려진 박준걸 교사의 과학 수업의 구조를 있는 그대로 이해하는 것이었다. 이를 위하여 박준걸 교사의 총 4차시 분량의 6학년 과학 수업과 박 교사와의 면담을 연구 자료로 활용하여 이들을 현상학적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 박준걸 교사의 초등 과학 수업은 사고력을 기르는 수업, 모든 학생이 참여하는 수업, 교육과정 성취 기준을 달성하는 수업이라는 세 가지 교수 원리를 바탕으로 여러 가지 교수 전략들이 수업에 적용되어 규칙적이고 반복적인 교수 행동으로 나타나는 통합적이고 위계적인 구조를 가지고 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 이러한 수업 구조는 초등 과학 수업에 대한 박준걸 교사의 실천적 지식이 표상된 것이라고 보고, 지식과 믿음에 관한 자원 기반의 관점에서 박준걸 교사의 교수 원리, 교수전략, 교수 행동을 박 교사가 그의 과학 수업에서 활용한 자원이라고 해석하였다. 따라서 만약 수업의 개선이 필요하다면 교사가 자신에게 가용한 자원들 중에 일부를 활성화하거나 선택적으로 활용하여 현재 수업의 구조 또는 실천적 지식의 변화를 시도할 수 있음을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to understand the structure of science class as it is, given by Mr. Park known as an exemplary elementary school teacher. For the purpose, the data was collected from 4 hour-long 6th grade science class by Mr. Park and interviews with him for phenomenological analysis. The data analysis showed that integrative and hierarchical structure of Mr. Park’s elementary science class was underpinned by three instructional principles: class for cultivating students’ thinking, promoting engagement of every student, and achieving performance standards in the curriculum. Based on these principles, several instructional strategies were employed in Mr. Park’s science classes, resulting in a variety of instructional behaviors of the teacher. The structure of the classes was considered as representation of Mr. Park’s practical knowledge about science instruction in the elementary school. In addition, from a perspective of resources-based view about knowledge and beliefs, Mr. Park’s instructional principles, strategies, and behaviors were considered as the fundamental resources utilized in his science classes. Based on the findings, the study suggested that when further improvement is required for the class, teachers may need to selectively activate or choose the resources they have to change the structure of their current classes and/or practical knowledge.
