국문 초록

기후 변화와 그에 따른 환경의 변화가 인류의 생활에 영향을 주었고 그것은 여러 가지 다양한 고고학의 문화적 양상으로 확인될 것으로 보는 시각은 지역을 막론하고 고고학에서 중요한 연구 방법론 중의 하나이다. 그러나 일본 고고학에서 과거의 기후 변동을 복원하고 그것에 과거의 문화 변동을 연관시켜 검토하는 구체적인 연구가 등장한 것은 1990년대 이후이다. 19세기 후반부터 시작된 일본고고학의 역사를 감안한다면 매우 늦게 시작된 것이라고 할 수 있으나 최근에는 산소동위원소비 연륜연대법 등의 다양한 방법으로 과거 기후를 복원하여 역사적 현상을 설명하고자 하는 시도까지 이르고 있다. 그러나 이러한 연구 경향 역시 기후 변동과 고고학적 현상의 구체적인 인과관계를 설명하기 보다는 지금까지 고고학 연구 성과로 잘 알려져 있는 특징적인 문화 변동, 예를 들어 도작 농경의 개시, 일본 열도 내의 급속한 확산과 자연과학 분야의 연구 성과로 밝혀진 한랭기, 온난기의 변화 시점을 대응시켜 조심스럽게 그 인과 관계를 추정하는 정도에 머물러 있다. 다양한 방법을 통해 과거 기후 복원이 시도되고 있으며 그 결과를 바탕으로 과거의 문화 변동을 해석하고자 하는 연구가 다수 있기는 하지만, 아직 연구 경향의 편중성, 해석 결과의 불일치 등 적지 않은 문제도 노정되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 일본 고고학에서 기후 변동을 요인으로 설명하는 고고학적 해석이 언제부터 등장하여 현재 어떠한 연구가 이루어지고 있는지 실 연구사례를 비판적으로 검토하고, 한국고고학에 적용시의 주의점 등을 살펴보도록 한다.

영문 초록

Climate change and resultant environmental changes have influenced the life of mankind, and the view regarding that the foregoing will be identified with diverse cultural aspects of archeology is one of the important research methodologies in archeology, regardless of the area. However, in the Japanese archeology, concrete research to restore past climate change and associate the results with past cultural changes for review appeared in the 1990s. Considering the history of Japanese archeology that began in the late 19th century, it can be said that the research started very late. In addition, rather than explaining concrete causal relationships between climate change and archaeological phenomena, the trend of such research trends stays at carefully matching the characteristic cultural variations well known as archeological research achievements up to now, for example, the beginning of rice farming agriculture and rapid spread in the Japanese Islands with the times of switches between cold periods and warm periods, which were found as the outcomes of research in the field of natural science. Although the restoration of past climate is attempted through diverse methods and there are many studies to interpret past cultural changes on the basis of the results, not a few problems are still exposed such as the preponderance of study trends and inconsistency of interpretation results. In this study, actual research cases will be critically reviewed to see when the archeological interpretation explaining climate change as a factor appeared in Japanese archeology and what kinds of studies are currently conducted and precautions when such an archeological interpretation is applied to Korean archeology will be examined.
