The interest in history of students is usually started from the curiosity and concern about an respectable or interesting person. The matter about a figure in teaching history is really fundamental and important. So, to properly understand the historical figures, students should correctly judge their behaviors or achievements, then they can cultivate historic thinking faculty in the process of the historical figure study. For the effective study of history, featuring the theme on a specific figure is better than simply arranging the historical figures or events. In this study, the statistics through the metrical analysis about the historical figures and the problems are presented mainly on the part of world history in the middle school textbook. In addition, not only the direction of the description about the historical figure study in the textbook but also the problems or fine examples through the comparison with & analysis on that of other countries are presented including the studies with using historical materials, giving assignments, role playing as the instruction methods. Especially, giving assignments is considered as a quite useful method for the instruction of the figure study. But, other than those various instruction methods, the most important thing for the effective historical figure study is the effort of the teachers and students with wide views. The important goal of history education is cultivating the historic consciousness and thinking faculty, consequently, it is extremely required to have the interest and concern for those. The historical figure study is helpful to make the students have the interest and concern in history and form their values. The historical figure study is frequently used in history class because it makes students grasp the historical facts and the background at that time, and actively take part in the activities of history study. Historical figures are very important as the principal body in the history. History teaching without historical figures can t be done. So I expect the constant study will be carried out considering the importance of the historical figure study.
