국문 초록

지난 반세기 동안 리더십 연구는 주로 북미와 유럽에서 진행되어 왔다. 그러나 십 여 년 전부터 비서구권 안에서 리더십에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되기 시작했다. 변화의 주된 요인은 서구식 리더십 이론들을 비서구권에 적용했을 때 생기는 부작용 때문이었다. 아프리카도 동일한 경험을 하고 있다. 식민지 시대부터 현재까지 서구에서 개발된 리더십 이론들을 받아 들여 적용하고 있으나 기대할 만한 성과를 거두지 못하고 있다. 왜냐하면 서구의 문화와 세계관의 옷을 입은 리더십 이론들은 아프리카의 문화와 세계관과 거리가 멀기 때문이다. 한국 선교사들은 1980 년대부터 본격적으로 동부아프리카를 포함하여 전아프리카 대륙으로 나가기 시작하였다. 30년이 지난 지금 한국 선교사들은 리더십 이양과 철수를 심도 있게 논의하기 시작했다. 리더십 이양 계획은 리더십 개발이 전재되어야 한다. 여기에서 질문이 생긴다. 동부아프리카 문화와 세계관이 리더십에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 동부아프리카에서 기독교 리더 십을 어떻게 개발해야 하는가? 필자는 이 질문들에 답하면서, 타문화권 리더십 이해, 동부아프리카 문화와 세계관 이해, 그것들이 리더십에 미치는 영향, 그리고 동부아프리카에서 기독교 리더십을 어떻게 개발을 할 것인가 여섯 가지로 제안했다.

영문 초록

For the last half century, the study on leadership has been carried out mostly by scholars in North America and Europe. About ten years ago, however, the study on cross-cultural leadership has actively begun. One of the reasons for that is a question: could leadership theories, which were invented in Western cultures, be appliable and effective in other cultures? Africa is not an unaffected continent by this challenge. From the period of colonialism to the present, Africa has received Western leadership styles, managerial ideas, political systems from the West and is using them heavily. However, most western theories and ideas being used by African companies are not effective as expected, because Africans feel that those theories, being developed in the West, are strange to their worldviews and cultural values. In the view of mission, the study on African worldview and culture which effects leadership should be considered by missionaries who are working in Africa. For several decades Korean missionaries have been involved in missions in Africa. And as they grow older they should think of leadership development and leadership succession. I am assured that Korean missionaries should examine African worldviews and cultures which affect African leadership and plan leadership development accordingly. To meet all these needs, I will examine the effects of African worldview and culture on leadership and suggest some ideas for leadership development.
