국문 초록

본고는 스위스 불어권 종교개혁의 1세대 가운데 가장 큰 공로를 세운 개혁자이지만 칼뱅의 그림자에 가려져 있던 기욤 파렐(Guillaume Farel, 1489-1565)의 영성과 신학사상을 소개하고 오늘날 개혁이 절실히 요청되는 한국교회를 위한 시사점을 밝힌다. 이를 위해 먼저 그가 종교개혁시대의 역사적 배경에서 개혁자로 성장해 간 배경과 스위스 불어권에서 종교개혁 운동을 확산시켜 나간 활동 그리고 파렐과 칼뱅 사이에 있었던 ‘예언자들의 우정’을 소개한다. 파렐에 대한 이런 기본적인 이해를 바탕으로 그의 대표적인 신학 저술인 『신앙개요』에서 오늘 한국교회 개혁에 시사하는 바가 가장 큰 부분을 발췌하여 번역한다. 그것은 두 가지 내용에 관한 것이다. 첫째는 한국교회의 중요한 개혁 대상인 기복 신앙과 번영 신학의 폐해를 극복할 수 있는 길을 보여주는 파렐의 기도의 영성에 관한 것이다. 둘째는 한국교회의 최우선적 개혁 대상으로 전락한 목사의 개혁을 위해 귀중한 교훈을 주는 거짓 목사와 좋은 목사의 모델을 제시하는 글이다.

영문 초록

This study introduces the spirituality and theological thoughts of Guillaume Farel (1489-1565), who was the most influential among firstgeneration reformers in French-speaking Switzerland, but has often been overshadowed by Calvin. It will also propose implications for the Korean Church which urgently requires a reformation. To do this, it deals with Farel’s growth as a reformer in the historical background of the Reformation, his role in the expansion of the Reformation movement among the French-speaking Switzerland, and the “friendship of prophets” between Farel and Calvin. With this basic understanding of Farel, it translates excerpts from his theological work Summary and Brief Exposition, which have most significant implications for the reformation of the Korean Church. The excerpts consist of two subjects. One is Farel’s Spirituality of Prayer, which show a way to overcome the consequences of the main targets of reformation, that is, the faith for blessing and the theology of prosperity. The other is the models of the Good Pastor and the False Pastor, which give insights for the reform of the pastors, who have been reduced to targets of the most urgent reformation in the Korean Church.
