This study contemplates the sacerdoral robe in a law and the transition of a sacerdotal robe in china through literature and at present among the denominations of Korea Buddhism investigating. The sacerdotal robe of Jogejong, Taegojong, Jungtojong, and southern Buddhism’s nations through the data of the real thing is to examine closely how the sacerdotal robe was changed in the same religion called Buddhism. In ancient Indo the law prescribes three kinds of clothes of priest and five kinds of those of priestess. Three kinds of clothes of priest signify to name Ahntawhe, Wooldahraseung, Seungari, transliterating Antarvasaka, Utarasanga, Sanghti in china and we say that five kinds of those of priestess are three kinds of those of priest and two kinds of those of priestess which is called Sunggeaji, Boggeaneui. Sungeaji and Boggeaaneui used in Indo are called Peansam to saw and to gather Sungeaji covering left shoulder, Boggeaneui hanging over right shoulder daring Bugwe (386~419) of China and they mixed Gun with Peonsam and made Jigcheol. This is present Jangsam. In the period of three countries, the sacerdotal robe of Korea which must have been introduced through China with Buddhism is supposed to be substantially the same that of China and is wearing over black Po. In Koryo Dynasty, each grade has on the different sacerdotal robe and the most reverend priest could wear Jangsoopeonsam, Nabkasa, Red Kasa and Samjunghwasang could wear Boggeon kasa, Jang soopeonsam and Daedeog could wear Dansoopeansam, five-lined grey Kasa and Samibiku, Jaekahwasang could not wear Kasa. In the epoch of Choseon the demarcation of dress regulation did not exist because of the influence of the idea that they reject Buddhism and the sacerdotal robe of Choseon have not a great alternation is comparison with that of Korea and at this time we can see that they wore Jangsam and the age to introduce Jangsam in Korea must have been entered into China from the end of Korea over the beginning of Choseon. If we investigate a southern surplic we could see original type and wearing-method of surplice. In the method of wearing the surplice, they wear Nibagsara, and they must bind the surplice of rectangle round the body. This is almost similiar to the pattern of an ancient Buddhist image.
