불교와 유아교육 간의 생태교육사상 비교연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 불교와 유아교육간의 생태교육사상을 비교분석하여 불교 사상과 생태교육 사상 사이에서 교차되는 철학에 기초한 새로운 입장의 생태교육을 조망하고자 한다. 불교와 생태유아 교육을 비교 분석하면 다음 5가지 사항들을 확인할 수 있다. 첫째, 불교와 생태유아교육의 사상은 생명에 근간을 두고 있다는 점에서 생태사상원칙을 공유한다. 둘째, 자각을 통한 지혜와 자비 구현과 함께 선(禪) 실천을 바탕으로 한 자발적 흥미 및 호기심 유발을 강조한다. 생태유아교육도 마찬가지로 생명존중 교육 으로 공동체중심의 교육을 지향한다. 이는 또한 몸과 마음, 영혼을 함께 살리는 전인적 교육을 추구하 며, 생명가치 실현의 내용을 택하고, 실제 삶의 체득을 핵심으로 한다. 셋째, 불교적 발달관은 한 생명 체를 그 생명체의 현생(現生), 전생(前生), 후생(後生)을 통해 인식한다. 인간은 환경과 개인의 의지가 복합적으로 인(因)이 되고 연(緣)이 되어 부단히 깨달음을 향해 나아가야 하는 존재로서 단독으로 생겨 나거나 존재할 수 없고 관계 속에서만 존재하고 성장해 나갈 수 있는 존재라고 본다. 생태유아교육에 서도 유아가 성장과 성숙을 통해 발달하는 것을 인식하나 그 미래의 모습에만 초점을 맞추지 않고 현재 처해 있는 생태(환경) 속에서 아동을 이해하려고 한다. 넷째, 불교의 교육목표는 유아가 불교적 세계관에 입각하여 몸과 마음을 바르게 닦고 참된 진리를 깨달아 그 깨달음을 실천하는 자주인으로 성장, 발전하도록 조력하는 것이다. 또한 불교의 유아 교육관은 유아의 발달을 고려한 총체적 교육과정 이며, 한편 생태유아교육 또한 산업문명사회 속에서 상실된 자연과 놀이와 아이다움을 되찾아 주는 교육, 이성, 영성과 감성의 조화로운 교육, 그리고 몸과 마음과 영혼을 돌보는 교육을 통해 신명나는 아이를 키우는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구는 불교 사상과 생태교육 사상의 비교 분석을 통하여, 숲과 같은 자연 속에서의 바깥활동에 기반을 둔 생태교육에서 벗어나, 우리가 항상 쉽게 접근 하고 생활하는 일상에서도 삼라만상 모든 삶을 체득(體得)하는 교육과정을 통해 유아 스스로 발견과 탐색을 지원 함으로서 공동체 의식을 배워 갈 수 있다는 새로운 입장의 생태교육의 필요성을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This study aims to investigate stereotypes of ecology education by comparing and analyzing ecology education of early childhood education and Buddhism. First, Buddhism and early childhood education share the principles of ecological ideas since they both honor life. Second, comparing Buddhism and early childhood education, we can find that they both have some perspectives on early childhood in common. In Buddhism, children are born to practice wisdom and mercy and then try to stimulate their interest and curiousness by pursuing the principles of Zen. Third, comparing Buddhism and early childhood education, we can understand that the Buddhistic developmental view is composed of past life, present life, and future life. It holds that human beings are supposed to interact constantly with the environment and then should realize the cause and effect of those interactions. It believes that human beings are subject to develop through the realization of this inevitability. Early childhood ecological education views that children grow through developmental stages. However it doesn t focus only on future possibilities. It tries to understand children s physical and mental development considering the environment around them. Fourth, Buddhistic education views that children are supposed to keep their body and mind clean, realize the truth, practice the realization, and then become the real owner of their body and soul. It holds that Buddhistic education should help children master those steps. Early childhood ecological education aims to help children s enjoyable development through the education restoring the beauty of lost nature and play, the education going side by side with reason, spirituality, and sensibility, and the education caring the body and the soul. This study suggests we discard the idea that children should go outdoors. Children could always realize the importance of the precious universe around them and then learn how to coexist with the environment through self-realization and exploration.
