영문 초록

The main purpose of this paper is to analyze and compare the syntactic structures―Adject/Noun, Genitive/Noun, Preposition/Noun Phrase, Adverb/Verb, etc―of Beowulf and the Parker Chronicle and to inquire into the differences of the Old English verse and prose. The discussion centers on describing, by the hypotheses of Vennemann (1975) and Stockwell(1977), which structures bear the character- istics of the VO/OV languages, what are the structural differences, if any, between Old English verse and prose, and what are the linguistic factors affecting them.
