영문 초록

This paper discusses the subject of Small Clauses(SCs) and its structural position. In a series of influential works by Lasnik (1995, 1999, 2002), the English ECM has been argued to involve raising of the subject of the embedded clause to the higher clause, [Spec,AgroP]. As the empirical evidence presented by Lasnik is overwhelming, some Korean syntactic phenomena that obey the clausemate condition will be investigated. Those phenomena including the distribution of Binominal ‘kakkak’, the Binding B effect, and the distribution of an NPI indicate that the subject of SCs in Korean must overtly raise to a higher clause, and its structural position is [Spec,AgroP] in which Accusative Case can be licensed. The organization of this paper is as follows: in the first part, Lasnik’s analysis will be sketched and discussed. In section 2,1, an argument by Kim (1996) is discussed as a starting point. Based on Bowers (2001), SCs with the binominal ‘kakkak’ in 2.2., the pronominalization facts in 2.3., and the distribution of ‘amwuto’ in 2.4. will be discussed in depth. All the data we discuss here lead us to believe that the subject of the Korean SCs does raise to a higher clause, presumably to [Spec,AgroP].
