국문 초록

본 연구는 중고령 취업여성과 전업주부의 삶의 질을 연구하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 한국노동연구원에서 실시한 고령화 연구 패널 (Korea Longitudinal Study of Aging)의 1년차 연구자료를 활용한 본 연구의 대상자는 45세 이상의 중고령 기혼여성 2920명이다. t-검증과 회귀분석으로 이들의 삶의 질의 지표인 우울과 삶의 만족도와 관련된 요인을 개인, 사회적 관계, 그리고 취업여성은 직업차원의 요인을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 중고령 취업여성이 전업주부보다 덜 우울하고 삶에 대해 더 만족하는 것으로 나타났고, 두 집단 공통적으로 삶의 질과 유이한 관계가 있는 요인은 주관적 건강, 배우자 및 자녀와의 관계에 대한 만족도였다. 집단별로는, 취업여성은 자녀와 동거를 하면, 그리고 직업에 만족할수록 삶의 질이 더 좋았고, 전업주부는 사회활동 참여 정도가 삶의 질과 긍정적으로 유의미한 관계를 보였다. 이러한 결과는, 중고령 여성의 삶을 이해고자 할 때, 가족관계에 초점을 맞출 것과, 특히 전업주부의 삶의 질 향상을 위해서 폭넓고 다양한 사회활동에 참여할 수 있도록 장려, 지원하는 방안이 필요함을 시사하고 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand what factors are related to the quality of life of women over 45 years old. From life course perspective, even though they are at the same point of life cycle, factors related to the quality of life may differ depedning on their employment status. Therefore, this study aims to explore what factors are related to the quality of life of working women and housewives. 2920 married women of age 45 and older whose spouse are alive were selected from the first wave of Korea Longitudinal Study of Aging data. According to t-test and multivariate regression analysis, working women are less depressed and more satisfied with their life than housewives. When factors were analyzed for each group, the levels of satisfaction with spouse and children are found to be positively related to their quality of life for both groups of women. For working wives, whether they live with their children or not was found to be significant while for housewives, the extent of participation in social activities were found to be sinificant. Results suggest that social service programs related to these women need to examinie their relationship with the family more closely, and that as for housewives, programs to encourage and support them to particiapte in a variety of social activies, especially in voluntary service, to enhance their quality of life.
