요보호노인 가족수발자의 대처기술이 수발부담에 미치는 영향 분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 요보호노인을 보살피고 있는 가족수발자의 대처전략이 수발부담에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 요양보호가 필요한 노인을 수발하는 300명의 가족수발자를 분석하였다. 연구결과 주로 중년의 여성(며느리)이 가족수발자 역할을 하고 있고, 수발을 받고 있는 노인은 여성의 비율이 높았으며, 치매, 중풍, 기타 쇠약에 의한 질병으로 인해 가족의 보호가 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 가족수발자의 성별, 연령, 수발제공기간, 수발 받는 노인의 인지적 능력, 가족수발자가 받는 사회적지지, 스트레스를 관리가능하게 재구성하는 대처전략이 수발부담과 유의미한 관계를 가졌다. 노인복지실천가(Geriatric workers)들은 연구결과를 통해 제시된 높은 수발부담을 경험하는 가족수발자의 특성(여성 가족수발자, 고령의 가족수발자, 수발 역할을 시작한 초기의 가족수발자, 인지적 장애가 심한 노인을 보살피는 가족수발자, 사회적지지가 부족한 가족수발자)을 숙지해야하며, 수발부담을 줄이기 위한 개입의 우선순위를 이러한 특성을 가진 클라이언트에게 주어야 할 것이다. 또한 요보호노인에게 주로 수발을 하고 있는 가족성원을 위한 프로그램이나 교육에서 가족수발자가 수발로 인한 스트레스를 대처가능하게 재구성할 수 있게 하는 기술을 습득할 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This study examined the relationship between coping strategies and caregiving burden among Korean family caregivers who care for their older family members with disabilities. A total of 300 family caregivers for disabled older adults were recruited using the purposive sampling method. All participants were interviewed with a structured questionnaire which included family caregivers characteristics, care-recipients characteristics, caregiving involvement, social support, use of social services, coping strategies and caregiving burden. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis were conducted to address the purpose of this study. Most of primary caregivers for disabled older adults in South Korea were mid-aged females(daughters-in-law) and the care-recipients were suffered from dementia-affected diseases or stroke. Caregiving burden were significantly associated with caregivers gender and age, duration of caregiving, care-recipient s cognitive impairments, social support, and the coping strategy, reframing stressful events to make them more manageable . Geriatric social workers should be aware of the results that caregivers who are fe males, are older, provide care for cognitively impaired older adults, and have lack of social support, are more likely to experience caregiving burden. In addition, geriatric social workers should provide education and training for family caregivers to obtain the coping strategy.
