영문 초록

Changes in the school-age population can have a great influence on facilities planning in the cities, therefore it is necessary to estimate the number of students and to grasp the spatial distribution of these students. The purpose of this study is to examine the spatial distribution of students in Seoul and to analyze school-age population migration patterns. The results show some differences in spatial distribution according to school age. The distribution of elementary-school students and middle-school students is similar, but the distribution of high-school students is different. In addition, the movement of elementary- and middle-school students is highly correlated with private educational institutes and educational satisfaction, while the migration pattern of high-school students has no correlation with the number of private institutes and educational satisfaction. There is also no statistically significant difference in housing price and housing type among the clusters, when the clusters are classified based on the student net-migration rate. This study examines the intra-urban migration of the school-age population within the city of Seoul only. Future study will deal with students’ migration in the Seoul metropolitan area, since regional migration between Seoul and Gyeonggi has increased recently due to housing-related issues.
