국문 초록

일반화된 더블다이아몬드 모델은 소규모경제국의 종합적인 경쟁력을 분석하는데 유용한분석틀이다. 이 모델의 실용성은 1998년 한국과 싱가폴의 경쟁력 비교연구에서 검증된 바 있다. 1998년 연구는 당시 1997년 아시아 금융위기 직후에 발표되었다는 점에서 의미가 있으며, 특히 두 국가는, 국내변수만을 바탕으로 한 Porter의 싱글다이아몬드는 국제활동이 활발 한 소규모 경제국에 적용하기에는 한계가 있음을 나타내기 위한 의도로 선정되었다. 이후 세계 경제에 많은 변화가 있었으며 지금 전세계는 또 다른 글로벌 금융 위기의 여파를 겪고 있다. 본 연구는 최신 데이터를 활용한 두 국가의 종합적 경쟁력 분석을 토대로, 지난 10년 간두 국가의 경쟁력에 어떤 변화가 있었는지 살펴보고, 싱가폴 경제가 한국 경제의 벤치마크가 될 수 있는지에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

A generalized double diamond approach is a useful analytical framework to analyze the global competitiveness of small economies. This model was tested with the case study of Korea and Singapore in 1998. This year was meaningful as it occurred immediately after the 1997 Asian financial crisis. The selection of the two countries was aimed to point out the limited scope of Porter s single diamond, which made an inappropriate prediction about the future of the two economies on the basis of only domestic variables. There have been many changes in the world economy since the publication of this paper and we are now experiencing another financial crisis worldwide. The empirical tests of the diamond with the most recent data reveal changes in competitiveness of these two economies. Here we present how serious the changes have been and whether Singapore’s economy can be a benchmark for Korea’s economy.
