영문 초록

The history of people s education in Turkestan has its thousand-year-old history. It constitutes a part of the history of enlightenment in the East, which eventually undergone significant changes under the impact of various processes. The present paper discusses the history of people s education development in the Turkestani territory, its peculiarities and specific features after the conquest by the Russian Empire (1867-1917). The author provided the comparative analysis of the types of education existed in the territory, having revealed their positive and negative aspects, such as: traditional Muslim schools (maktabs and madrasahs), Russian-Native schools, Russian educational institutions and New-Method (Jadid) schools.
