고전요가에서 요가행자에게 있어서의 빛의 의미

국문 초록

본고는 요가행자의 수행 중에 현현하는 빛에 관하여 다루고 있다. 우선 Yogasutra와 Yogabhasya 1-36에 나타난 심장에 집중하여 빛을 현현하게 하는 행법에 대한 기술이 삼매와 유사한 함의를 내포하고 있음에도 불구하고, 고전 요가 전통의 8지요가와 삼매체계에 포섭되지 않는 이질적인 요소임에 주목한다. 그리고 이와 같은 행법에 두 갈래의 연원이 있으며, 그 중 한 갈래는 최초기 우파니샤드에 나타난 심장에 관한 생리학과 관련이 있으며, 다른 한 갈래는 Moksadharma와 Bhagavadgita에서 설명되는 신에 대한 헌신을 통해서 나타나는 신의 현현으로서의 빛에서 찾을 수 있다. Yogasutra와 Yogabhasya에 산재된 빛의 현현에 관한 기술들은 그와 유사하지만 착수단계 에서부터 정비된 채로 YS에 유입되었던 유상삼매의 체계에 편입되지 못하고 이질적인 요소로서 이들 문헌에 포함되어 있다.

영문 초록

This paper purports to make researches for the appearance of light within yogin s sight in meditation practice. The focus of the study was on the difference of descriptions between samādhi and the appearance of light in Yogasutra and Yogabhasya. It goes on to give an account why it is the luminance can t be explained by samadhi system of the classical Yoga school. At first, to address this issue, I provide an overview of difference of two systems. With this background I deal the source of the appearance of light in yogin s sight in meditation practice. The analysis is based on Brhadaranyaka Upanisad, Chandogya Upanisad, Svetasvatara Upanisad, Moksadharma and Bhagavadgita. The conclusions drawn from this study indicated that the classical Yoga school combined and systematized various and different meditation system, but the description about appearance of luminance dotted around Yogasutra and Yobabhasya weren t incorporated into new meditation system of Yogasutra since they didn t suit the system that finely tuned from the outset.
