자폐스펙트럼장애를 지닌 아동을 위한 사회적 이야기(Social Stories™)중재 단일대상연구 메타분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 주요 목적은 사회적 이야기(Social Stories™) 중재를 사용한 국내 및 국외 연구의 a) 일반적인 동향, b) 양적 효과 크기, c) 질적지표 충족수준을 비교․분석하는 것이다. 1993년에서 2016년까지의 국내 및 국외 학 술지(peer-review)에 자폐스펙트럼장애로 진단받은 연구대상자를 대상으로 사회적 이야기 중재를 적용한 국내 단 일대상연구 12편, 국외 단일대상연구 17편을 선정하여 분석하였다. 사회적 이야기 중재를 사용한 단일대상연구 의 일반적인 동향은 a) 대상자 연령, b) 연구 환경, c) 종속변인, d) 독립변인으로 구분하여 분석하였다. 사회적 이야기를 이용한 국내 및 국외 중재 연구를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국내외 사회적 이야기 중재 단 일대상연구는 6~11세 이하 연령에게 가장 많이 적용되었으며, 주요 종속변인은 사회적 상호작용, 의사소통 및 문제행동이었다. 둘째, 국내 사회적 이야기 중재 연구는 특수학교 및 클리닉과 같은 제한적인 환경에서 가장 많이 적용되었으며, 국외 사회적 이야기 중재 연구는 특수학급에서 가장 많이 적용되었다. 셋째, 국내 사회적 이야기 중재는 주로 다른 중재들과 결합되어 사용되었으며, 국외 사회적 이야기 중재는 주로 단독 적용되었다. 사회적 이야기 중재를 사용한 국내․외 단일대상연구의 효과 크기는 PND와 IRD로 산출하여 비교․분석하였 다. 국내 연구의 PND는 83.6%로 효과적인 중재인 것으로 나타났으며, IRD는 79.9%로 매우 효과적인 중재인 것 으로 나타났다. 국외 연구의 PND는 57.4%로 의심스러운 중재인 것으로 나타났으며, IRD는 57.1%로 보통크기의 중재인 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 이야기 중재를 사용한 단일대상연구의 질적지표 충족수준은 Horner 등(2005), Jitendra 등(2011)과 Reichow 등(2008)이 제시한 질적지표를 수정․보완하여 분석하였다. 국내 연구의 질적지표 충 족수준은 71.8%인 것으로 나타났으며, 국외 연구의 질적지표 충족수준은 80.2%인 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 질적 수준의 차이는 질적지표의 종속변인 및 기초선영역에서 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

We conducted a meta-analysis to analyze Social Stories™-related research articles published in South Korea and other countries (e.g., US, Canada, Turkey) in terms of (a) research trend, (b) effect size of the intervention, and (c) methodological quality. 12 experimental research published between 1993 and 2016 in South Korea were searched and selected from peer-reviewed journal articles listed on the Korea Citation Index; 17 experimental research published in other countries (e.g., US, Canada, Turkey) between 1993 and 2016 were searched and selected from peer-reviewed international journals. The research trend, quality, and intervention’s effect size factors of the target articles were analyzed in terms of (a) participants’ ages, (b) experimental settings, (c) primary dependent variables, (d) additional independent variables. The results showed as follows: First, the participants of both countries　were under 6~11 year old. The primary dependent variables of all the target articles were social interactions, communications, and problem behaviors. Second, most of the Social Stories™ articles published in South Korea were conducted in the special education school or clinic settings; most of the Social Stories™ articles published in other countries (e.g., US, Canada, Turkey) were conducted in the self-contained classroom setting of general education schools. Third, most of the Social Stories™ articles of South Korea employed multi-strategies in addition to Social Stories™ as the independent variables; most of the Social Stories™ articles of other countries (e.g., US, Canada, Turkey) employed Social Stories™ without any additional interventional strategies. In addition, we also calculated the Percentage of Non-overlapping Data (PND) and Improvement Rate Difference (IRD) for each articles so that we identified an intervention effect size for each article. The results showed that the Social Stories™ articles published in South Korea showed ‘fairly effectiveness’ along with 83.6% PND and 79.9% IRD. However, the Social Stories™ articles published other countries (e.g., US, Canada, Turkey) showed ‘questionable effectiveness’ along with 57.4% PND and 57.1% IRD. For article’s quality factors, we used the quality indicators within a single case research (Horner et al., 2005; Jitendra et al., 2011). The results showed that most of the target articles achieved sufficient scores for their quality as a single case research in general.
