민수 25,12-13의 “영원한 사제직의 계약”의 의미

국문 초록

“영원한 사제직의 계약”(민수 25,13)을 언급하고 있는 민수 25,13의 저자는 “피느하스”(민수 25,10)의 사제직의 중요성을 강조하면서 죄와 정화와 속죄를 통해 이스라엘 백성을 구원하시는 하느님 앞에선 사제직의 역할을 부각시키고 있다. 민수 25장의 전체 구성과 맥락 속에서 “영원한 사제직의 계약”은 이스라엘 백성의 우상숭배로 인해 야기되는 계약의 파기의 위험에 직면해 하느님과 맺은 계약의 중요성과 그 준수를 함축해 표현하고 있다. 곧 사제직을 통해 수행되는 임무가 하느님과의 맺은 계약의 이행과 결코 무관하지 않다는 사실이다. 하느님과의 계약을 위반하는 이스라엘 백성의 행위에 저항하면서 피느하스가 보여준 거룩한 열성과 속죄 예식의 거행(민수 25,13)은 계약으로 정의될 수 있는 사제직의 본질을 수호하면서, 하느님과 이스라엘 백성 상이에 맺어진 계약 관계를 중재하는 역할이 사제직의 본질에 내포되어 있다는 사실을 명시하고 있는 것이다. 이런 관점에서 하느님과의 계약을 준수하려는 열성과 속죄의 행위는 사제직의 직무를 통해 자손 대대로 평화의 계약(민수 25,12)이라는 충만한 의미가 지속되고 유지되기 위한 결정적인 근거가 되는 것이다.

영문 초록

The author of the book of Numbers mentioned ‘covenant of perpetual priesthood’(Numbers 25,13), and highlighted ‘the role of priesthood’ in front of God who saves the People of Israel by purification of sins and expiation, while emphasizing the importance of ‘Phinehas’ priesthood(Numbers 25,10). In the whole structure and the interconnections in Numbers Chapter 25, ‘covenant of perpetual priesthood’ implied the importance of covenant with God and its compliance facing with danger of covenant annulment due to idolatry of the People of Israel. That is the duties practicing through priesthood are never irrelevant to fulfill the covenant with God. The sacred devotion and performance of expiation ritual ceremony shown by PhinehasI(Numbers 25,13), who confronts to the People of Israel who disobeyed to God’s covenant, manifested the essence of priesthood, that is the arbitrator between God and the People of Israel, while protecting the nature of priesthood defined by covenant. In this point of view the passion for complying with God’s covenant and expiation deeds are to be the decisive foundations to sustain and to keep the full meaning of covenant of peace (Numbers 25,12) through the duties of priesthood, from generation to generation.
