경북慶北 예천醴泉지역 태실胎室에 관한 일고찰一考察

국문 초록

태실이란 왕과 왕비를 비롯한 그 자손들의 태를 묻은 시설물을 말한다. 이런 왕실의 태실은 예천지역에서 6곳을 확인할 수 있었으며, 조사된 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 먼저 예천지역의 태실은 모두 금당실 마을 북쪽 십승지지로 알려진 곳에 위치해 있다. 왕실의 태실은 왕릉과 달리 살아있는 왕의 현우賢愚와 성쇠盛衰를 위한 것임으로 이는 국운國運과 연관된다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 태실은 사람들이 난을 피해 살 수 있는 곳, 또 국난에도 안전한 곳이 선정되었다. 둘째, 왕실의 태는 지역사와 밀접한 관계를 지닌다. 고려의 강종대왕과 조선의 문종대왕의 태를 예천 지역에 안치함으로써 이곳은 기양현, 풍기군으로 읍호가 승격되는 영광을 얻었다. 더구나 태실 수호사찰인 용문사는 감역을 비롯한 왕실의 대규모 후원이 이루어졌고, 명봉사는 폐사된 이후 문종의 태를 묻은 후 재건되어 태실 수호를 담당했음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 폐비윤씨 가봉태실, 장조 가봉태실의 특수성을 찾을 수 있었다. 폐비윤씨의 사례처럼 민가에서 태를 소중히 보관하는 풍속이 있었다는 사실을 유물로서 확인할 수 있었고, 조정에서는 폐비 이후의 상황에서도 태실의 훼손을 가하지 않았음을 알 수 있다. 이로 인해 폐비윤씨 태실은 현존하는 국내 유일의 왕비가봉태실비로 남아있다. 더구나 장조는 왕이 되지 못한 인물이었지만, 아들이 왕으로 등극함으로써 태실의 가봉이 이루어졌다. 그의 태실 가봉은 왕이 아닌 신분으로 이루어진 유일한 것으로, 정조 시대의 역사적 특수성을 담고 있다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to collect basic resources on the royal Taeshil (placenta burial tomb) and to examine the regional background of the Yecheon region for the selection of preserving Taeshil in the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. First of all, all of Taeshil of the Yecheon regions are located at the north of the Geumdangsil village which is known as Sipseungjiji (ten dispensation territory). Taeshil for the royal dynasty was installed for the prudent and success of the king, which is closely related to the destiny of the country. Accordingly, Taeshil was chosen to a place where people could escape from revolts or live in peace against national crisis like Sipseungjiji. Secondly, the royal placenta is closely related to local history. When the placentas of King Gangjong of Goryeo and King Munjong of Joseon were preserved in Yecheon, the places were promoted to Giyang-hyeon and Punggi-gun respectively in their district level. Furthermore, Yongmunsa Temple, the guardian temple for Taeshil, received extensive supports from the royal family including Gamyeok. As for the case of Myeongbongsa Temple, which was once destroyed, when it preserved the placenta of King Munjong, the temple was reconstructed to carry out the guardian role for Taeshil. Thirdly, there are special features Gabong Taeshil of the deposed queen Yoon and Gabong Taeshil of Jangjo. The case of the deposed queen Yoon confirmed a custom of cherishing placenta in private families with its relics. The royal court did not deteriorate Taeshil even after she was deposed. Accordingly, Taeshil of the deposed queen Yoon is the only queen Gabong Taeshil-stone in the country. Furthermore, though Jangjo did not become a king, Gabong Taeshil was installed because his son was enthroned a king. Thus, Jangjo was the only person who had royal burial of placenta as a person who was not a king, which demonstrates a special historic context of the era of King Jeongjo. Meanwhile, considering the current situation of designating places related to historic figures such as birth places or tombs as cultural heritages, the royal Taeshil seems to be a precious cultural heritage that reflects traditional Feng-shui culture of the country and that has historical, literary, artistic and spatial (Feng-shui) significance as a royal culture in high scarcity. It is expected that maintenance and restoration of existing Taeshil could contribute to preserve a royal culture and could be used as a place of education to teach the royal history and the local history
