신구법천문도 병풍의 제작 시기

국문 초록

조선朝鮮의 관상감觀象監 천문학자들이 서양 천문학 지식을 도입하여 제작한 신구법천문도新舊法天文圖의 성도星圖와 도설圖說을 분석하여 그 유래와 제작 시기를 고찰하였다. 피휘避諱와 별자리 이름의 변화 등을 고찰하여, 신구법천문도의 구법성도인 천상열차분야도天象列次分野圖는 숙종肅宗 복각본 천상열차분야지도가 모본인 것으로 추정하였다. 신구법천문도의 신법성도인 황도남북양총성도黃道南北兩總星圖는 황도총성도黃道總星圖에서 증성增星들을 제외하고 중국의 전통적인 별자리를 이루는 별들만 그린 것임을 밝혔다. 이 황도총성도는 청淸의 흠천감欽天監에서 활약하던 예수회 선교사인 이그나티우스 쾨글러가 1723년에 작성한 것을 1742년 초에 조선 관상감의 천문학자였던 안국린安國麟이 수입하였음을 밝혔다. 이 천문도를 이듬해인 1743년에 대형 병풍으로 만든 것이 법주사 황도남북양총성도黃道南北兩總星圖 병풍이며, 그 후에 이것을 천상열차분야지도와 나란히 그린 것이 현재 전 세계에 네 점이 전하고 있는 신구법천문도이다. 신구법천문도의 제작 시기에 대해 고찰하였다. 신구법천문도의 황도남북양총성도에 대한 도설에 신제영대의상지新製靈臺儀象志와 흠정의상고성欽定儀象考成이 인용되었다. 승정원일기와 조선왕조실록 등의 역사 기록을 조사하여, 신제영대의상지는 1708년에, 그리고 흠정의상고성은 1766년에 처음으로 조선에 수입되었음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 신구법천문도는 적어도 1766년 이후에 제작되었다고 추론하였다.

영문 초록

The origin of the Korean Screen Planisphere with both Traditional and New Star-Charts, made by Korean Astronomers in the Royal Astronomical Bureau of the Choson Dynasty by adopting the knowledge of the European astronomy, is investigated by analyzing its inscriptions and star charts. The considerations on both the changes in notations or representations of names of asterisms and the naming taboos used in the Old-style planisphere imply that the star-chart is originated from either the Sukchong-Stele-Replica of Ch onsang-Yolch a-Punyachido天象列次分野之圖. The New-style planisphere is just the reproduction of Huangdao-congxingtu 黃道總星圖, with the exception of the non-Chinese-traditional stars. The Huangdao-congxingtu was made in 1723 CE by Ignatius Kögler who was a Jesuit missionary and worked for the Bureau of Astronomy 欽天監 in the Qing Dyansty. I find that the star chart was imported in 1742 CE from the Qing Dyansty by An Gukrin 安國麟 who was an astronomer in the Royal Astronomical Bureau of the Choson. The chart became model for the screen star-chart made in 1743 CE and now housed in Popchu temple. I found that the inscriptions are extracted from the sentences in both Xinzhi Lingtai Yixiangzhi 新製靈臺儀象志 and Qinding Yixiangkaocheng 欽定儀象考成. Korean historical records in either Daily Records of the Royal Secretariat of the Choson Dynasty 承政院日記 or Annals of the Choson Dynasty 朝鮮王朝實錄 show that Xinzhi Lingtai-Yixiangzhi was imported from the Qing Dynasty in 1708 CE, and the Qinding Yixiangkaocheng was imported in 1766 CE. Thus, the Korean Screen Planisphere with both Old and New Star-charts was certainly made after 1766 CE.
