국문 초록

얼굴은 영혼의 창이고 아름다움의 원천이다. 또한 얼굴은 그 자체로 얼굴을 반영하는 창이므로 사람들은 얼굴을 가꾸는데 최선을 다하였다. 또한 얼굴의 아름다움을 따지는 기준과 선호도는 시대와 지역에 따라 변해왔고, 인간이 아름답다고 보는 미(美)는 사람들의 평가일 뿐이며 절대적인 기준이나 절대적인 이상, 또는 기준이 정해져 있지 않으며 사회적으로 어떻게 규정되는가에 따라 달라져 왔다. 인간의 신체는 언어와 함께 우리들의 상호작용을 위한 훌륭한 매개체의 역할을 담당한 다. 특히 눈썹은 얼굴의 기준점을 제공하는 중요한 위치에 있기 때문에 눈썹의 모양과 방 향에 따라 그 사람이 가지고 있는 본래의 이미지와 너무 다른 모습으로 연출될 수도 있다. 눈썹화장은 그 사람의 성격과 인상을 결정짓는 메이크업으로 볼 수 있으며, 색조화장이 자신이 선호하는 컬러로 원하는 이미지를 만든다면, 눈썹화장은 다른 사람들에게 자신의 인상을 선명하게 심어 줄 수 있는 숨은 공로자인 셈이다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 역사를 배경으로 재현된 영화속 눈썹화장을 통하여 눈썹이 치장의 개념으로 인식되었던 역사적인 배경을 고찰하고, 화장문화의 전성기였던 20세기 눈썹화장을 헐리우드의 영화스타 여배우들의 메이크업을 통하여 연구하였다. 본 논문은 눈썹화장이 얼굴 형태 이미지에 미치는 영향 고찰과 눈썹 형태의 이미지를 응용하여 자신이 원하는 얼굴이미지를 표현할 수 있게 하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to review the historical background, of the eyebrow makeup, particularly during the 20th century when the eyebrow makeup reach a peak, and thereupon, examine the effects of eyebrow makeup on facial images, and thereby, apply the images of eyebrow forms to express desirable facial images. Through this study, the researcher reilluminated the historical background and changes of eyebrow makeup, and thereupon, analyzed eyebrow and facial forms to determine the important relationship between eyebrow makeup and facial images, and thereby, suggested the ways to produce more effective images with the eyebrow makeup in consideration of the facial shapes. This study about the eyebrows shown in the 20th-century star makeups can be concluded as follows; First, this study reviewed changes and roles of eyebrow makeups from ancient time to our modern time, and suggested that the eyebrows expressing facial emotions and expressions for each period have been conspicuously emphasized or functioned as a makeup code determining the facial contour. Second, it was confirmed through the review of history that eyebrow makeup images and desired ones have been closely related with the fashion of the time, and therefore, that it may well be necessary to reilluminate the changes of eyebrow makeups over time to reflect on the relationship between eyebrow makeups and facial images. Third, this study examined the relationship between eyebrow makeups and facial images through analysis of eyebrows and facial forms. Facial forms may be divided into round, long, rectangular, triangular, oval and diamond types, while the eyebrow forms may be categorized into horizontal, rising, angular, arched and drooped types. Thus, the relationships between eyebrow and face images can vary depending on length, orientation, density, rhythm, interval and thickness of eyebrow. Fourth, this study suggested that eyebrow is an important reference for the face, various facial images can be produced with eyebrow makeups only, and that eyebrow makeups in consideration of facial types can render the facial images more impressively and effectively.
