에도시대 초기 일본의 임진왜란 인식

국문 초록

본 연구는 에도시대 초기 유학자였던 하야시 라잔의 저술 『豐臣秀吉譜』가, 에도시대 일본인들의 임진왜란･豐臣秀吉인식에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는가를 검토한 것이다. 『豐臣秀吉譜』의 내용상･체제상의 특징은 첫째, 임진왜란 서술에서 조선을 배제시키고 철저히 명-일본간의 전쟁으로 임진왜란을 그려냈다는 점이다. 이는 히데요시가 조선에 征明嚮導를 요구하며 천명했던 명 정복 구상과 부합함으로써 망상이 아닌 ‘원대한 꿈’을 지녔던 히데요시로 격상될 여지를 남겼다. 둘째, 임진왜란･히데요시에 대한 어떠한 史論/평가도 없다. 전쟁에 대한 어떠한 반성도 존재하지 않고, 히데요시의 무모함･죄과에 대한 지적이 없다. 셋째, 전쟁의 참상･잔혹함이 서술되지 않고, 명의 대군을 맞서는 일본군의 공포/결기/고초만이 담겨 있다. 시련과 공포에 맞서 싸우는 용감한 일본 군대의 활약상이 담겨 있는 것이다. 『豐臣秀吉譜』는 하야시 라잔 저술이라는 권위, 일목요연한 구성/체제의 장점 등으로 인해, 에도시대 지속적으로 생산되었던 太閤物의 계통상에서, 또 임진왜란 관련 기록으로서 큰 영향력을 지닌 문헌이었다. 위와 같은 내 용상･체제상의 특징과 큰 영향력을 지니고 있었던 『豐臣秀吉譜』는 에도시대 일본인들이 기억하고 싶어하는, 훼손되지 않은 임진왜란･豐臣秀吉의 원형을 이후 시기에 전달했다. 그리고 18세기 이후 征韓論･海防論이 대두하는 시대적 분위기 속에서, 당대인들은 잘 보존되어 전달된 豐臣秀吉의 조선 침략을 꺼내어 격상시켰다.

영문 초록

This study examines the influence of the Toyotomihideyoshihu written by Hayashi Rajan, a Confucian scholar in the early Edo period, on the consciousness of the Japanese in the Edo period of Imjin War(Japanese invasion to Joseon in 1592) and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The characteristics of the content and narrative system of Toyotomihideyoshihu are as follows: First, it excluded Joseon from the description of Imjin War, and thoroughly depicted the Japanese invasion as a war between Ming and Japan. This is consistent with Hideyoshi s statement that the purpose of the war was to conquer the Ming Dynasty, leaving room for Hideyoshi, who had a big dream , not delusions. Second, there is no criticism/evaluation of Imjin War and Hideyoshi. There is no reflection on the war, and there is no indication of Hideyoshi s recklessness and sin. Third, it does not describe the horrors and cruelties of the war, but contains only resolution/hardship of the Japanese army against the Ming s enormous army. It contains the work of a brave Japanese army that fights against trials and fears. The Toyotomihideyoshihu had many merits, such as the authority of Hayashirazan writing, obvious configuration/system, and so on. So it has an important place in the genealogy of Taikouki mono(Hideyoshi s biography) which was continuously produced in the Edo period. And it was a document that had a great influence on the records of the Imjin War. The Toyotomihideyoshihu, which had such characteristics and great influence, conveyed the untouched/undamaged prototype of the of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his Invasion to Joseon, which the Japanese in the Edo period wanted to remember. And, in the situation where the Seikanron and the Kaiboron(National Security) have emerged since the 18th century, the contemporary people took out and upgraded the Imjin War and Hideyoshi.
