1910년대 중·후반 판소리와 창극의 전개양상

국문 초록

본고는 20세기 중반 무렵까지 대략 밝혀진 판소리와 창극사에 있어 상대적으로 그 논의가 미진하다고 판단되는 1910년대 전개된 판소리와 창극관련 정황을 당시 한국어로 발간된 유일한 신문이었던 『매일신보』의 기사를 통해 그 실상을 보강해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 1910년대에 전개된 판소리와 창극의 공연양상 중 이미 연구 성과가 축적된 범위는 제외하고 1915년 판소리 창자들을 중심으로 결성되었던 경성구파배우조합의 등장에서부터 1920년 이전까지 전개된 내용을 직접적인 연구대상으로 삼았다. 특히 1915년 결성된 경성구파배우조합과 관련해서는 새로운 자료를 추가하여 단체의 활동 중 판소리와 창극을 논의의 중심에 두고 아직까지 선명하게 드러나지 못한 물산공진회 이후 전개된 단체의 활동과 와해과정에 초점을 맞춰 그 진상을 드러내 보고자 하였다. 나아가 경성구파배우조합의 활동 무렵에 있었던 판소리와 창극에 관한 기존 연구가 이 단체의 활동에만 편향되어 있어 이 시기 전개된 판소리와 창극의 실체가 상세히 파악되지 못하였다. 이에 주목하여 경성구파배우조합의 활동 이외에 존재했던 판소리와 창극의 공연무대를 추적하여 1915년부터 시작된 『매일신보』의 독자위안회를 통해서도 판소리와 창극이 공연되고 있었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 1910년대 중·후반 판소리와 창극은 신극단체와 협력하여 신구극개량단을 결성하고 새로운 공연레퍼토리로 흥행하고자 노력했던 경성구파배우조합의 활동과 신문구독자의 확보를 목적으로 시작되었던 『매일신보』의 독자위안회라는 무대를 통해 활발하지는 않았지만 꾸준히 공연되고 있었다. 이와 같이 1910년대 중·후반에 전개된 판소리와 창극은 1920년대 판소리와 창극이 지속될 수 있는 여지를 마련해주었다는 점에서 그 음악사적 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

This report is to reinforce the true reality about situations on 1910 s Pansori and Korean traditional operas by researching Maeilsynbo that was the only korean newspaper at that time, since the study on 1910 s Pansori and Korean operas until mid twentieth centuries has not been sufficient in historical point of view. When carrying out new research, we excluded well-studied areas in 1910 s Pansori and Korean operas, while focusing on the Kyungseonggupa s actors guild that was organized mainly by Pansori singers on 1915 and existed through 1920. Especially, we tried to build up new research data on Pansori and Korean operas conducted by Kyungseonggupa s actors guild after the period of Mulsangongjinheo as well as the collapse of the guild, which has been unclear so far in history. Furthermore, existing studies on Pansori and Korean operas are mainly focused only on the activities by Kyungseonggupa s actors guild, so that overall realities on that period was not recognized well enough. Paying attention to those facts, we traced other Pansori and Korean operas in addition to Kyungseonggupa s activities, and found out the fact that such other Pansoi and Korean operas had been actually performed on stage through Dokjaweeanheo from Maeilsynbo starting from 1915. 1910 s Pansori and Korean traditional operas had cooperated with new-drama guild under the effort of Kyungseonggupa s guild, so that Singoogukgaeryangdan was organized altogether for creating new performance repertoire in order to attract more audiences, and a performance stage was prepared by Dokjaweeanheo from Maeilsynbo, originally intended for securing more readers, although performances on that stage were not very active, but steadily performed. As explained above, 1910 s Pansori and Korean traditional operas had made a room for the continuation of 1920 Pansori and Korean traditional operas, making 1910 s Pansori and Korean traditional operas to be meaningful in musical history.
