국문 초록

동양 고전으로서의 [주역]은 다양한 측면에서 읽혀질 수 있다. 그러나 이 글은 역점의 치료적 성격을 논구하는 것이다. 이때 역점이란 수양을 목적으로 점을 쳐서 그 점괘의 내용을 자신의 몸과 마음을 갈고 닦는 원료로 사용하는 것을 말한다. 이러한 과정에서 점괘를 얻어내는 것은 점을 치는 사람이 하늘에게 천명을 묻고 하늘이 천명을 내려주는 구도로 되어 있다. 여기서 얻어낸 점괘는 점을 치는 사람에게 자신의 행동과 처신을 어떻게 하라는 일종의 처방전과 같다. 이것을 행동 강령으로 삼아 점을 친 사람은 자기 행동의 방향과 수위를 조절하게 된다. 이런 측면 때문에 역점은 치료적 성격을 갖게 되며, 더 나아가 시중으로서의 좌표 설정을 역점이 가능하게 해준다. 이런 측면은 역점이 자기 상담의 성격을 갖게 되는 것이고, 심신의 수양이라 는 [주역] 본연의 세심경의 역할이 역점을 통해 이루어지는 치료의 지평을 우리들에게 제공하고 있다.

영문 초록

As an East-Asian classic, I Ching or The Book of Changes can be interpreted from various points of view. In particular, this work examines the therapeutic nature of i ching. Here, i ching refers to the use of the words and messages received as a result of divination in the tradition of I Ching, performed particularly for the purpose of self-cultivation, to refine one’s the Mind-and-Heart. In this process, the diviner receives the words and messages of i ching from Heaven as a mandate of Heaven. The messages received through this process serve as a prescriptive recipe for the diviner’s behavior and deportment, which he may use as a basis for conduct to adjust the direction and intensity of his behavior. This aspect gives i ching its therapeutic nature; taken further, i ching makes possible the establishment of one’s optimal coordinates in time and space. As a result, i ching takes on a nature of self-counseling and self-therapy. Thus, I Ching or the Book of Changes, as an authority on the self-cultivation of the Mind-and-Heart, offers us therapeutic horizons opened through i ching by way of its role as an authentic canon on polishing the mind.
