국문 초록

하느님은 세상을 창조하시면서 그 세상에 대한 보존의 임무를 인간에게 위임하셨다. 하지만 불행하게도 인간은 하느님으로부터 수여받은 그 특별한 임무에 관심을 기울이지 않았고, 결국 생태계의 불균형을 초래하여 인간의 생존에 심각한 위협을 가져오는 지경에 이르렀다. 그중에서도 인간이 내뿜는 온실 가스는 지구 온난화를 가속화시켜 현 인류에게 가장 큰 위협이 되고 있다. 인간의 지속적인 생존의 문제를 고려한다면, 이제 지구상에 살고 있는 모두가 합심하여 지구 온난화의 위험을 줄이기 위한, 책임 있는 행동에 나서야 할 때다. 이에 로마 가톨릭교회는 지구 온난화의 위기에 대처하기 위해서는 우선 서로 간의 일치 속에서 공동의 연대를 발전시켜야 나가야 한다고 가르치고 있다

영문 초록

When God created the world, he entrusted it to human beings, thus, making the latter “stewards” of his creation. But human beings unfortunately has not been serious about this special responsibility bestowed on them by God himself. The consequent imbalance caused to ecology is gradually becoming a serious threat to the very human existence on this planet. Of these, the humanly-induced emission of greenhouse gases has been the most serious and urgent threat to the contemporary world, in the form of global warming. If human beings are serious about their continuous survival, then, it is high time that they took collective responsible action to stem the threat of global warming because we all live in one world. The official Roman Catholic teaching on this issue that we need to promote stewardship in solidarity is the most fitting response to the threat of global warming.
