영문 초록

This study analyzes the specific aspects of the overlap between offending and victimization in juvenile delinquency and the factors to account for the change of it, which are not covered in previous studies. We use panel model to investigate the effect on change of offending and victimization with using longitudinal data- Korean Children and Youth Panel Study, dividing juvenile delinquency into bullying and criminal behavior. The results of this article are as followed. First, bullying and criminal behavior tend to be decreased passing the time. Second, We can find the mutual impact from offending to victimization vice versa. The impact from offending to victimization is larger than that from victimization to offending in bullying. That is, it seems to be more likely to result in victimization to the subsequent offending for bullying. Third, as a result of analyzing the change in the overlap when considering other factors, bullying itself has a unique effect regardless of other factors. The overlap of criminal acts, however, are embedded in other related factors. Fourth, the association of delinquent friends and delinquency lifestyles are very important factors, which explain the link between offending and victimization in bullying as well as criminal behavior. Fifth, for analyizng the relationship bullying with criminal behavior, bullying-offending is more overlapped criminal-offending, and bullying-victimization is more linked criminal-victimization. But we find out the overlap between offending and victimization in criminal behavior is spurious when controlling the bullying behavior. We propose some policy implications based on these results.
