시교육의 현황과 발전 방향의 모색

국문 초록

학교에서 현대시교육은 체계적인 지도가 잘 이루어지지 않는다. 이 논문은 시교육의 현재 상태를 살펴서 그 문제점을 진단하고 개선할 수 있는 방안은 무엇인지 모색해보았다. 이를 위해 교사들에게 설문조사를 실시하여 시교육의 현황을 점검해보았다. 설문조사 결과 시수업은 크게 3가지 유형으로 범주화할 수 있다. 유형 1은 강의식으로 수업을 진행하되 교사가 재구성한 학습지를 보조자료로 제공하는 형태이다. 유형 2는 학생의 작품 감상과 내면화를 강조하는 형태의 수업이다. 유형 3은 학생들의 창작, 표현을 강조하는 활동 중심의 수업 형태이다. 교사들이 시수업에서 느끼는 어려움은 적절한 제재 선정, 평가 방안 확보, 교사 자신의 역량, 수업 시간 확보 등이었다. 교사들이 펴낸 교육실천사례집 또는 단행본 등을 살펴보며 거기에 나타난 시수업의 현황을 분석해보았다. 그리고 전국 국어교사모임의 홈페이지에 게시된 현장수업 실천사례 자료를 함꼐 검토하였다. 그 결과 최근 시수업의 공통점을 세 가지로 정리했다. 첫째, 학생들의 활동을 중심에 놓는다. 둘째, 일회성 활동이 아니라 지속적 활동을 강조한다. 셋째, 문학적 제재 바깥으로 확장을 시도한다. 2000년대 초바에 주류를 이루었던 시 맥락 읽기의 활동은 이제 기본적 활동으로 자리를 잡았다. 최근의 수업은 학생들이 시 작품의 감상을 심화시키고, 문학적 감수성을 증대시키는 방향으로 학습 활동을 구안하고 있다. 물론 아직 부족한 점이 있다. 교육과정의 재구성, 교사 개개인의 시모음집, 교사 협의체 구성, 교사의 문학 향유력 향상 등의 과제가 남아 있다. 이 연구는 앞으로 시수업의 방향을 세우고자 할 때 참고자료로 유용하리라 기대한다.

영문 초록

In school, the modern poetry education is not very systematic nowadays. This study is aimed at identifying the problems and exploring measures to improve the education. To that end, a survey was conducted on school teachers to identify the current status of poetry education. Based on the results, the poetry education in school can be categorized into the following three types. Type 1 is a lecture-style class where activity papers reorganized by the teacher is offered as a supplementary material. Type 2 stresses poem appreciation and internalization of students. Type 3 focuses on student activities that emphasize their creation and expression. As for the problems teachers face in poem education, the following were mentioned in the survey: selecting proper materials; establishing the evaluation methods; teacher competence; securing the class time. The status of poetry education was analyzed through educational casebooks and paperbacks published by teachers. Also, collection of class practices posted at the website of the National Association of Korean Education Teachers was reviewed. Based on the findings, the similarities of recent poetry education are as follows. First, the class revolves around student activities. Second, continuous activities, rather than one-off activities, are emphasized. Third, the education attempts to expand the material areas beyond literature. The activity of reading poetry contexts, which was prevalent in the early 2000s, is now the basic activity of the poetry education. Recently, the school activities have focused on enhancing the poem appreciation of students and their literary sensibilities. Of course there are still areas that need improvement. The current tasks include the curriculum restructuring, publishing poem collections of teachers, organizing teacher councils, and enhancing their ability to enjoy literary works. The findings of this study can be used as a reference for setting the right directions on poetry education in school.
