유아교육기관에서의 부모교육에 대한 다문화가정 어머니의 담론분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 영⋅유아기 자녀를 양육하고 유아교육기관에 자녀를 보내고 있는 다문화가정 어머니들이 인식하는 부모교육의 의미와 참여의 어려움 그리고 요구를 살펴봄으로써 유아교육기관에서 이루어지고 있는 다문화가정 부모교육에 대하여 효율적인 방향성을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 유아교육기관에 자녀를 보내는 다문화가정 어머니 5명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 다문화가정 어머니들은 유아교육기관에서 실시하고 있는 부모교육의 의미에 대하여 자녀의 학습지도에 대한 방법에 대한 교육, 자녀 양육의 기술에 대해 부모에게 알려주는 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 그러나 일부 다문화가정 어머니는 부모가 자녀를 가르치는 교육이라고 이야기하거나 부모교육에 대한 의미를 제대로 모르는 경우도 있었다. 둘째, 다문화가정 어머니들이 유아교육기관에서 실시하고 있는 부모교육 프로그램에 참여하기 어려운 가장 큰 이유로는 한국어 이해의 부족으로 인해 부모교육의 내용에 대해 제대로 인지하지 못함으로 인해 참여를 꺼려하고 있었다. 그 외에도 나라별 문화적 차이로 인한 부모교육에 대한 인식의 차이로 인한 참여의 어려움, 다문화가정에 대한 차별적 시선으로 인한 자신감의 결여에서 오는 참여의 어려움과 외국인 엄마를 둔 자녀의 교육기관 부적응에 대한 두려움으로 인한 참여의 어려움, 부모교육 실시에 따른 이동수단의 불편함으로 인한 참여의 어려움, 남편의 부모교육에 대한 참여의식 결여로 인한 참여의 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 유아교육기관에서의 부모교육 실시에 대한 다문화가정 어머니들의 요구로는 다문화가정 자녀의 학습지도 방법 자녀양육법에 대한 부모교육의 내용 제공, 다문화가정 아버지들을 위한 자녀 양육의 공동책임자로서 부모교육 실시, 다문화가정 부모를 위한 차별화된 부모교육 내용 및 방법, 다문화가정 어머니들 간의 협력적 자모회 구성을 통한 자녀교육에 관한 정보 공유 등을 제공되기를 희망하고 있었다.

영문 초록

The purposes of this study were to examine the meanings of parent education perceived by multicultural family mothers with toddlers attending an early childhood education institution, their difficulty in participating in parent education, and their expectations from parent education, and to suggest directions for effective education of multicultural family parents provided by early childhood education institutions. For these purposes, this study conducted in depth interviews with five multicultural family mothers with children attending an early childhood education institution. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, as to the meanings of parent education executed at early childhood education institutions, multicultural family mothers perceived that it was to teach the parents about the methods of guiding their children’s study and about parenting skills. However, some multicultural family mothers misunderstood the purpose of parent education, saying that it was parents’ teaching of their children. Second, the biggest reason for multicultural family mothers’ difficulty in participation in parent education programs at early childhood education institutions was their poor Korean language skills, which hindered them from understanding the contents of parent education and, resultantly, obstructed them from participation. Besides, their difficulty in participation came from difference in the perception of parent education arising from cultural difference among the countries, lack of confidence due to discriminative eyes on multicultural families, fear of children’s maladjustment to the educational institution for having a foreigner mother, inconvenient transportation for attending parent education, and husband’s lack of understanding of parent education. Third, multicultural family mothers’ expectations from parent education at early childhood education institutions were the providence of contents about how to guide their children’s study, the providence of contents about parenting methods, parent education for multicultural family fathers jointly responsible for parenting, differentiated contents and methods of parent education for multicultural family parents, sharing of information on child education through a cooperative committee among multicultural family mothers, etc.
