慶州 三川岐 周邊절터 位置比定에 關한 一考

국문 초록

국도35호선 도계-경주간 확장공사구간내 탑동유적은 기린천과 모량천이 合水하는 三川岐 주변에 위치하고 있은 유적이다. 탑동유적은 건물지를 비롯하여 원형석군, 방형석군, 담장지 등이 조사되었으며, 이를 사역의 일부로 판단하였다. 경주의 川邊에는 많은 수의 절터들이 존재하고 있다. 三川岐 주변에도 傳神元寺址, 傳坤元 寺址, 傳曇嚴寺址 등의 여러 절터들이 존재하고 있다. 이러한 절터 중 신원사와 곤원사의 위치에 대해서는 이론이 많은 편이다. 이 두 절터의 위치비정에 있어서 가장 중요한 것은 鬼橋址의 위치 문제이다. 『三國遺事』에는 鬼橋의 위치를 설명하면서 ‘神元寺 北渠’라고 기록하고 있어, 신원사의 위치를 비정하는 중요한 단서를 제공해 주고 있다. 귀교의 위치에 대해서는 문헌의 기록과 일제 강점기의 조사내용, 그리고 그 지역 주민의 전언 등으로 오릉 서남쪽이나 서쪽의 서천에 위치하였을 교 량으로 추정된다. 이러한 귀교의 위치를 중심으로 신원사의 위치를 추정해 보면, 현재 탑동정 수장내에 있는 탑재를 근거로 그 일대를 신원사지로 비정할 수 있을 것이다. 坤元寺의 경우는 『高麗史』와 『新增東國輿地勝覽』에 ‘坤元寺 北淵’이라는 명칭과 함 께 ‘곤원사 북연은 신원사 남쪽 2리에 있다’는 기록이 있다. 이를 근거로 하여 곤원사는 신원사 남쪽에 위치하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 곤원사 북연과 관련하여 탑동유적 동북쪽의 영남문 화재연구원 시굴조사 지역 내에서 확인된 배수시설 및 암거시설과 함께 토층 설명상 하층에서 뻘층이 확인된다고 하고 있어 연못이 있었을 것으로 추정할 수 있다. 이와 같이 탑동유적을 곤원사지로 추정하면 그 북쪽의 연못과 신원사, 그리고 귀교의 위치 까지 문헌의 기록과 일치하게 되는 것이다. 따라서 현재 『慶州遺蹟地圖』에 표기된 전곤원사지는 신원사지로, 그리고 탑동유적 일원을 전 곤원사지로 비정해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Tap-dong site is located around Samcheongi where Girin Stream and Moryang Stream join. The Tap-dong site, where traces of buildings and walls, and circle and square shaped stone piles were unearthed, is regarded as a part of the precincts of a temple. There are a number of temple sites in the riversides of Gyeongju, and there are several ruins of temples such asSinwon temple, one known as Gonwon temple, and one known as Wunam temple around Samcheongi. Among them, there has been quite a different opinion on the locations of Sinwon temple and Gonwon temple. In the discussion on the locations of these two temples, the most critical point is the location of a bridge named Gwigyo . According to Samgukyusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms), Gwigyo was located at someplace close to the north of Sinwon temple. Based on literature, past investigations, and local people’s remarks, it has been believed that the Gwigyo had been located at the southwest of Ohreung (a group of tombs consisting of five royal tombs) or west of a stream called Seocheon. Based on the location of the Gwigyo , the location of the Sinwon temple may be a surrounding area of a filtration plant at Tap-dong. According to Goryeosa (History of Goryeo) and SinjeungDonggukyeojiseungram (Augmented Survey of the Geography of Korea), on the other hand, North pond of the Gonwon temple was within 800m to the north of Sinwon temple. In the northeast of the Tap-dong site, considerable possibility of existence of a pond was confirmed along with drainage facilities and culverts in the field excavation. If it is possible to identify Tap-dong site as Gonwon temple, locations of a pond, Sinwon temple, and Gwigyo are identified with the records of old literature. Accordingly, a temple known as Gonwon temple should be regardedas Sinwon temple, and a surrounding area of the Tap-dong site as a temple known as Gonwon temple, respectively.
