초등 사회과에서의 지속가능발전교육 프로그램이 세계시민의식에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 지속가능발전교육과 세계시민교육이 지향하는 방향에 유사성이 있음에 주목하고, 초등학교 6학년 학생들을 대상으로 지속가능발전교육 프로그램을 구안·적용한 후 세계시민의식 변화를 살펴본 연구이다. 이를 위하여 사회과 교과서 분석을 통하여 시사점을 도출한 후 9차시의 지속가능발전교육 프로그램을 구안하였고, 서울특별시 성동구 소재 E초등학교 6학년 1개 학급을 대상으로 프로그램을 적용하였다. 사전·사후 검사 및 포트폴리오, 면담을 통하여 자료를 수집하여 세계 시민의식 변화를 살펴보았다. 이러한 과정을 통하여, 초등 사회과에서의 지속가능 발전교육 프로그램이 학생들의 세계시민의식 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 5가지 세계시민의식 요소 중 인간의 보편가치와 다양성에 대한 가치 존중에서는 유의미한 효과가 없었지만, 세계 문제에 대한 흥미와 관심(t=-2.337), 세계 문제 해결에 대한 참여의식(t=-2.677), 세계지향적인 태도(t=-2.586)에서는 통계적으로 유의미한 효과가 나타났다. 또한 지속가능발전교육 프로그램 적용 후 학생들이 지구공동체를 고려하며 지속가능성을 기준으로 의사결정을 하는 모습을 발견하였다. 즉, 지속가능발전교육이 학생들의 지구적 세계관 형성에 영향을 주었다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the change in global citizenship after designing the ESD program and applying it to grade 6 elementary school students. To this end, a 9-session ESD program was designed after identifying the implication of social studies textbooks,and the program was applied to 1 class of grade 6 at E Elementary School in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. To begin with, a survey was conducted with questionnaires on global citizenship through a pre-test, and then, the 9-session program was applied, followed by a post-hoc test with the same questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS 22.0. In addition, the change in global citizenship was examined by collecting qualitative data through portfolio and interviews. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, it was found that the ESD program in elementary social studies had a positive effect on the improvement of global citizenship of students. Among 5 global citizenships, a statistically significant effect was found in interests in global issues (t=-2.337), intention to solve global disputes(t=-2.677) and global-oriented attitude (t=-2.586). Second, it was found that students consider the global community and make a decision based on the sustainability after applying the ESD program. That is, it can be considered that ESD has affected the formation of a global view of students This study showed that ESD in elementary social studies has a positive effect on the improvement of global citizenship of students. In this context, more studies on the relationship between ESD and global citizenship need to be conducted. Furthermore, it is worth actively using the ESD program at schools in order to foster global citizenship.
