『釋門儀範』의 지장보살츰부다라니 고찰

국문 초록

지장보살의 다라니 가운데 60구 이상의 長句로 이루어진 다라니는 ‘衆德究竟記莂呪術陀羅尼’, ‘具足水火吉祥光明大記明呪’ 등으로 일컬어지는 이른바 ‘지장보살츰부다라니’이다. 츰부다라니라는 명칭은 『釋門儀範』에서 유일하게 명명되고 있을 뿐 한국의 의례‧의식집 어디에도 나타나고 있지 않다. 또한 『석문의범』 츰부다라니의 기술방식을 보면 한역음에 대한 어떠한 언급도 없이 우리말 音寫만을 기술하고 있을 뿐이다. 더욱이 우리말 음사 또한 共時的 시점을 가늠할 수 없는 음사로 기술되어 있어서, 그 연원이나 경전적 근거에 대해서 상당한 관심과 의구심을 함께 지닌 채로 현재에 이르고 있다. 이에 본 논고에서는 다음의 두세 가지를 논증하였다. 우선 다라니 명칭인 ‘츰부’에 대한 객관성을 확보하였고, 다음은 『석문의범』 츰부다라니의 전거는 玄奘이 번역한 『大乘大集地藏十輪經』이지만, 경전의 다라니구를 음사한 것이 아니라 다라니 誦者의 음성을 근거한 것으로 보이며, 이로 인하여 다라니구의 구분 또한 명확하지 않아 『대승대집지장십륜경』을 준거로 하여 33구로 재조정하였다. 그리고 츰부다라니의 형식에서도 결함이 있는 바, 다라니 결문에 대한 언급이 빠진 채로 본문만을 다라니의 전부로 인식해 온 사실을 확인하여 이에 대하여 보완하였다. 하지만 이러한 제반의 불완전함에도 불구하고 츰부다라니는 현재까지 지장보살의 다라니로서 지대한 공능을 보유한 중요한 다라니임에는 틀림없는 사실이다. 따라서 『석문의범』의 지장보살츰부다라니가 안고 있는 여러 가지 부족한 부분을 수정‧보완하여 완성형의 다라니를 제기함과 동시에 우리말 음사를 새롭게 제기하였다. 이를 위하여 慧琳의 『一切經音義』와 行琳의 『釋教最上乘秘密藏陀羅尼集』 등을 참고하였으며, 이 과정에서 특히 현대적 음사에 대해서는 임광명의 『방산명주집』에서 자세하게 밝혀 놓은 로마나이즈 및 실담범자를 그 준거로 삼았다.

영문 초록

Among the Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva’s dhāraṇīs consisting of more than 60 long verses is one known as 衆德究竟記莂呪術陀羅尼, or 具足水火吉祥光明大記明呪: the so-called Kṣaṃ-bhu dhāraṇī of the Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva. The name, kṣaṃ-bhu dhāraṇī, appears only in the Seokmunuibeom. In addition, the record only describes the Korean sounds of the Korean translation without mention on what the Chinese translation sounded like. Furthermore, the Korean language transcription is recorded in a way that it is impossible to place a synchronic point in time of the pronunciation of the Hangul. Therefore, this text has generated considerable interest and doubts about the origin or basis of the scripture. As a result, this paper comes to two or three conclusions. We have objectively demonstrated that the name ‘kṣaṃ-bhu’ refers to the dhāraṇī of the Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva. Next, the source of the text appears to be the Daśa-cakra-kṣitigarbha translated by Xuanzang, but rather than a copy of the scripture's dhāraṇī portion, the text appears to be a transcription of a person reading the text. This therefore makes the classification of the dhāraṇī unclear; it was again readjusted to 33 passages based on the Daśa-cakra-kṣitigarbha. We also note that the Kṣaṃ-bhu dhāraṇī is incomplete, as only the main text had so far been understood as the full text without mention of the closing portion of the dhāraṇī. Therefore, upon confirming this we supplement and modify the facts that surround this work. In addition, the subtitle of the Kṣaṃ-bhu dhāraṇī as mentioned in the Seokmunuibeom is ‘a dhāraṇī that is chanted while repenting to Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva about the many sins one has accrued over the many lifetimes.’ However, the actual content of the Kṣaṃ-bhu dhāraṇī is a dhāraṇī that consistently praises virtues of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva in this life, and not a dhāraṇī for repentance. However, despite these defects, the Kṣaṃ-bhu dhāraṇī is no doubt an important dhāraṇī of the Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva with great merit. Therefore, we have corrected its flaws to produce a new complete edition, supplemented by a new Korean transcription. To that end, we have referenced Huilin's 慧琳 The Sounds and Meanings of the Scriptures 一切經音義 along with The Collection of Dhāraṇī for the Teaching of Śākyamuni as the Supreme Vehicle Secret Repository 釋教最上乘秘密藏陀羅尼集 written by Xinglin 行琳. During this process, especially for the modern Korean transliteration of the manuscripts, we consult the romanization and the Siddhamātṛkā-type letters detailed in Lin Guangming's Fangshanmingzhou.
