국문 초록

본 연구는 ‘미디어 폭력’과 관련된 국내의 전반적인 연구경향을 파악해 보고자 했다. 1991년부터 20014년까지 38개의 학술지에서 66개의 논문을 분석대상으로 삼아 메타분석을 하였다. 분석결과 미디어 폭력을 다루는 논문들은 사회과학의 영역에서 가장 많이 나온 것으로 확인 되었다. 연구 주제는 크게 ‘미디어 폭력자체’와 ‘미디어 폭력의 효과 및 영향’ 두 줄기의 흐름으로 이어져 왔다. 새로운 매체는 새로운 미디어 폭력의 유형이 생산된다고 간주되었으며, 미디어 폭력 연구의 지형도 미디어에 따라 변해왔다. 미디어가 늘어난 만큼 미디어 폭력 연구 또한 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 그렇지만 미디어 폭력의 인과관계를 설명하는 부분은 공통된 결론을 찾을 수 없었다. 이러한 이유는 첫째, 청소년에 치중되어 있는 연구 대상의 제한, 둘째, 실제 폭력 측정의 제한, 셋째, 측정에 있어 윤리적인 문제, 넷째, 매체의 특성이 다른 점, 다섯째, 개인 성향 및 다양한 환경 문제로 보인다. 이러한 점에서 미디어 폭력에 대한 학제간 연구의 필요성이 요구된다.

영문 초록

This research aims at understanding the overall trend of domestic research related to media violence in Korea. From 1991 to 2014 in 38 scholarly journals, meta-analysis was employed to analyze 66 articles. The result shows that the articles dealing with the analysis of media violence came mostly from the social sciences field. The research topics are largely about “media violence” itself. Also the effectiveness and impact of media violence has led to two streams of ideas. New media is also considered to produce new form of media violence. So the focus of research on media violence has changed according to which type of media is involved. As the media has increased, media violence studies also tended to increase. However, a common ground has not been found in explaining the relationships that can be found between causes and effects of media violence. The reasons are; (1) limits the focus of the studies on the youths, (2) limits the studies to survey of actual violence, (3) ethical issues involved in survey, (4) the particular characteristics of each medium, (5) personal dispositions and other environmentally induced problems. Taking all these into consideration brings to fore the importance of this interdisciplinary approach to the study of media violence.
