한국어 문법 교육의 발전 방향

국문 초록

오늘날 외국어로서 한국어 교육의 목표는 정확하고 원활한 의사소통을 하는 데 있다. 그러나 이러한 의사소통을 하기 위해서는 말하기 능력 못지않게 문법 학습을 통한 언어 능력도 중요하다. 의사소통 능력은 문법 능력과 대치되는 것이 아니고, 이를 포함하는 것이며, 또한 문법 능력은 정확한 의사소통을 하는 데 매우 중요한 부분이다. 이러한 관점에서 유창한 의사소통이 중요한 외국어 수업에서 간과하기 쉬운 문법의 중요성과 활용법에 대해서 국내 한국어 교육기관을 통해서 살펴보았다. 외국어로서 한국어 문법 교육의 필요성에 대해서는 다양한 논의가 있다. 그 논의에 대해서 살펴보면, 외국어로서 한국어 문법 교육은 필요 없다는 의견과 반드시 필요하다는 의견 등 다양하지만, 제2언어로서 언어 능력이 단순한 의사소통만이 아닌 정확하고 유창한 의사소통에 있기 때문에 한국어 교육에서 문법 교육은 반드시 필요하다고 할 수 있다. 그동안 한국어 교육에서 의사소통에 중점을 둔 교육으로 인하여 문법 교육이 상대적으로 소홀해지고 그로 인해 정확한 언어 구사 능력이 떨어지고 화석화가 일어나는 등의 문제점이 생겼다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해서 최근에는 전통적인 문법 교육에 관심을 두는 교수자가 많아지고 있다. 이러한 현상은 매우 바람직한 방향이라고 할 수 있다. 한국어 교육에서 문법 교육은 중요하다. 하지만 한국어 문법 교육은 한국어로 정확하고 원활한 의사소통을 하는 것이 최종 목표이기 때문에 문법 교육의 목표를 의사소통 능력 향상에 두어야 한다. 그리고 의사소통 능력의 향상을 위해서 문법을 어떻게 활용할 것인지에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 특히 의사소통 중심 교수법에서는 구체적 교수 방법이 교사와 학습자의 자율에 맡겨져 있기 때문에 교수자 스스로 이러한 목표를 인식하고 교수하여야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Nowadays Korean language education aims to equip the Korean learners with the ability to communicate more accurately and smoothly. In order to achieve the goal, the study of grammar and speaking practice are equally important to improve their language skills. Communication skills cannot be counterposed with grammar ability but it contain grammatical competence. Grammatical competence plays a very important role in accurate communication. However, communication fluency is often emphasized in the foreign classes, while the importance of the usage of grammar can be easily overlooked. In this view this research searched the importance of grammar and usage through the national Korean language educaton center. Based on a research on domestic Korean language education, there are controversial views on whether it is necessary to teach and learn Korean grammar in Korean learning. Whereas, grammar teaching and learning are crucial to improve learners' language skills. So there are various opinions, the language skill as a 2nd langauge is not just simple communication skill but correct and fluent communication skill, so the grammar education should take part in Korean language education absolutely. In the past, the Korean language education emphasized the ability to communicate fluently, but it neglected grammar teaching. Therefore, the following consequences are, for instance, declining the ability to produce the correct language, and getting accustomed to incorrect way of expression. Thus, recently to resolve these problems, there is an increasing number of people who concern about the education of traditional Korean grammar. In the Korean language education, teaching grammar is very important, but through teaching Korean grammar the ultimate goal is to make the communication more accurate. Thus, the target of teaching grammar should be placed on how to improve communication skills. In order to improve communication skills, it is necessary to investigate research about how we can utilize the grammar. Especially on the concrete teaching, it is important that the educators must realize this point and conduct targeted teaching, because communication teaching depends on autonomy of learners.
