영문 초록

Porter and Kramer (2002, 2011) argue the most important aspect of strategic corporate philanthropy is a created value through business activities. However, a created value through business activities is bound to be limited. And although various programs for philanthropic activities have been created through CSR activities being strategically utilized within business activities, most of them are closely correlated with business activities. Therefore, it has been difficult to solve fundamental social problems with philanthropy. This study predicts that the friction between a corporation and interest groups can be reduced by the corporation's participation philanthropic activities through an independent foundation and this study is based on a case-study method in order to analyze the research topic. Using the theoretical sampling, we chose to study the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as it is the most suitable in terms of achieving research goals. We found the independent foundation as a strategic method for a corporation to overcome the barrier of business activities when performing corporate philanthropy.
