환율변동이 기업채산성에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

원화 환율의 상승은 이론적으로 해외시장 매출액을 증가시키지만, 기업의 해외시장의존도가 클수록, 수입원자재 의존도가 낮을수록 기업채산성이 개선될 가능성이 높다. 우리나라의 2001-2012년 업종별 기업자료를 이용하여 환율변화가 기업채산성에 미치는 영향을 살펴본 결과, 업종별로 보면 종이목재업, 화학업, 철강금속업을 제외한 대부분의 업종에서 환율 상승의 채산성 효과를 확인할 수 없었다. 그러나 수출중심기업과 내수중심기업을 분리하여 분석한 결과 수출기업은 환율상승으로 채산성이 개선된 반면 내수기업은 오히려 채산성이 악화된 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The depreciation of currency won will increase the profits and sales of exporting Korean firm. In theory, the heavier the dependence on overseas markets and the lower the dependence on imported raw materials, the greater the improvement in the profitability of that company. Using the 2001-2012 firm data by industry in Korea, we investigated the effect of changes in exchange rates on the profitability of the company. Except paper-wood industry, chemical industry and non-ferrous metal industry, in cases of most industry we can't confirm the effect of the exchange rate on the profitability of that industry. However, Analysing the domestic market oriented firms and export-oriented firms separately, we can find that while the profitability of the export-oriented firms has improved, that of the domestic market oriented firms has deteriorated after the depreciation of won, for example, in the electrical and electronic industry.
