영문 초록

This study begins with the mother appearing in feminine text. Generally, Motherhood was regarded as a negative event in feminine novels. In novels by Laila al-Uthman from Kuwait, the heroine was a victim due to the absence of a mother figure. The heroines, as daughters in her novels, tried to deny motherhood existed and had no maternal instincts. This is made clear in her novels which were published in the 70s and 80s, "From The Women File"(1979), "The Wall Was Torn"(1984), "FATHIYAH Chooses Her Death"(1987). Refusal of motherhood seems to be a common phenomenon in the feminine writer's works. In 1991, after the Gulf War, Uthman started to reconsider motherhood as possibly a positive event. In "An Epidemic Attacks The City" (1994), Uthman became reconciled with motherhood and accepted it as a positive scenario. Her views altered due to her own experiences and resulted from the impact of her divorce and the war. This study illuminates that Uthman used her novels to review her views about motherhood. Whether it was denial or acceptance of motherhood, awareness of Uthman about the problems relating to the role of motherhood is worth research.
