영문 초록
Developing writing skills is important because we live in an era of globalization by using
advanced written communication devices. The Korean national curriculum suggests that
creative thinking skills should be taught in primary and secondary schools. Therefore, this study
aimed at developing creative writing skills through the instruction using stories which would
boost creative thinking for writing activities. The technique of reflective action research was
employed and the data collected was analyzed qualitatively. Through the pilot study, the
researchers found fantasy picture books are appropriate to develop students’ creative writing
skills. The results emerged in two categories. Second, introducing teaching strategies such as
building vocabularies, guiding cooperative learning and teaching thinking skills and teaching
process writing helped to develop students’ writing. Second, the study suggests a lesson model
for teaching creative writing. Finally, various literary experiences fostered students’ written
communication and creative writing skill as well. Students expressed their ideas creatively by
referring to several literary constituents of fantasy stories. They also showed the potential for
writing descriptive, expository and narrative writing as well as poetry. Based on the result, some
suggestions were provided.
