국문 초록

간헐적으로나마 청동기시대 토기의 용량을 복원하려는 시도는 계속되고 있다. 복잡한 이론적 논의도 아닌 방법 차원의 연구임에도 불구하고 시도가 반복되는 현상은 용기로서 토기의 용량을 측정하는 작업 자체보다는 그것이 파생하는 사회 혹은 경제상 복원에서의 역할을 인식한 데서 비롯된 듯하다. 예를 들어, 가내의 조리나 저장양상의 변화, 잉여의 관리 양상의 변화를 인지하고 설명하기 위해 토기의 용량복원 결과는 필수적이다. 그런데 실전에서 경험하는 바와 같이 대부분의 토기는 불완전한 파편으로 출토되는 바, 개별 유구는 물론 유적 전체에서 출토되는 토기의 용량을 복원하기란 쉽지 않은 일이다. 이러한 상황을 인식하여 파편 상태의 무문토기 용량을 복원하고자 하는 시도가 없었던 것도 아니며, 상당한 효과도 기대할 수 있다. 다만, 일부 기종 특히(전기 유적에서 출토되는) 壺形土器에 대한 복원식의 부재, 松菊里型土器, 특히 소형토기의 복원과정에서 발생하는 복원식과의 정합성 부족, 底部 및 胴(體)部만 남은 토기에 대한 복원식의 부재 등과 같은 한계 또한 노출된다. 본고는 그러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 복원식의 효용 제고를 도모하고자 한다. 파편으로부터도 용량을 복원하고자 한 기존의 시도와 방법상에서 큰 차이는 없으나 표본의 양을 늘리고 복원과정에 사용될 회기식의 생성과정에서 설명능력을 저하시키는 요소, 즉 잔차에 대한 관찰과 처리 방안을 부가함으로써 그 목적을 달성하고자 한다. 물론, 본고가 호서지역 출토 청동기시대로 고찰의 범위를 한정하지만 동일한 방식의 복원식 생성이 여타 시대나 지역에도 적용될 수 있음을 밝힌다. 더 나아가 이러한 방식의 복원식 추출이 청동기시대보다는 토기 제작의 전문화, 대량화, 규격화가 진행되는 시기들에서 오히려 더 큰 효과를 거둘 수 있음을 피력한다.

영문 초록

Calculating volumes of Bronze Age vessels has though sporadically been attempted for a relatively long time. It does not include theoretically complicated discussions but rather simple technically issues. Nevertheless realizing it's critical contributions on understanding socioeconomic aspects of the Bronze Age society have attracted archaeologists'attentions. For a proper understanding and explaining on, for example, the changes in domestic activities relevant to cooking and storing, patterns of communal surplus management and so on, calculating and reconstructing volumetric capacity of vessels should be preconditioned. However it is not that easy and simple task, because absolute majority of ceramic vessels are recovered in the shape of incomplete part. Recognizing the problems mentioned above, some effort to reconstruct parent vessels'volumetric capacity has been made and its accomplishment can be appreciated. However, we can also find some limitation, such as that some vessel, such as jar-shaped vessels of Early Bronze Age, has not been included in the analysis, that some of Songgukri-type vessels, especially small ones revealed incompatibility with formula for reconstructing parent vessels, and that for some part, such as body and bottom ones, formulas have not been suggested. This paper pursues the way in which reconstructing formulas'usefulness could be increased in action. Particularly it looks for a effective treatment of the residuals that deteriorate the efficiency of the formulas, incorporating a bigger sample used in the actual analysis than in the previous research. It is asserted that this paper's way in which formula for reconstructing parent vessel's volume of Bronze Age sherds from Hoseo Region is made could be applied to other regions'ones. Furthermore, it can be expected that the efficiency of reconstructing formula could be enhanced in the periods when specialization, standardization, and mass manufacture in producing ceramic vessels was accelerated.
