'경찰학' 학술논문 분석

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 우리나라 경찰학 연구들의 경향을 고찰하고 관련 학문분야와의 비 교연구 를 통해 경찰학 연구 가 앞으로 지향해야 할 방향에 대하여 파악하는 것을 주요 연구 목적으로 하였다. 「공안행정학회보」와 「한국경찰연구 」에 게재된 경찰학 논문 220편을 추출하였으며, 비교 연구 를 위해 「형사정책연구 」, 「교정연구 」, 그리고 「한국행정학보」 각각 117편, 92편, 201편의 논문들에 대한 내용분석을 시도하였다. 분석기준과 분석단위로는 연 구자 관련 (직업, 연구 자 수, 연구비 지원), 연구 내용 관련 (연구 분야 , 연구 목적), 그리고 연구 방법 관련 (자료수집방법, 연구 방법, 자료분석방법)으로 세분하 였으며, 경 찰학 연구 경향 성 파악을 위해 3개 년도를 묶어 5개 시대로 구분하 였고, 비교 연구 는 2004년 이후 연구 논문들 만을 대상으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 경찰학 연구는 관련 학문분야에 비해 상대적으로 부족한 측면이 많이 있지만 공동연구의 증대, 연구비 지원의 증가, 연구 목적 및 자료수집 방법의 다양화, 계량적 연구의 증가와 함께 분석 방법의 다양성 확보라는 방향으로 발전하고 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. 반면 연구 자 및 연구 주제의 편중 문제는 보다 심화되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 경찰학 학문 공동체의 지속적 노력을 통해 문제점들에 대한 효율적 관리 가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The current state of research in the field of police studies has been much debated recently. But few efforts have been made to empirically demonstrate those debates. This study used content analysis to examine the research trends of police studies and to compare police research with that in other disciplines such as criminal justice, correction service, public administration. As a source of data about the nature of research, journals published by the premier professional associations in the field should be used. Such journals are assumed to be representative of the types of research conducted in those disciplines. The journals selected for this study were KAPSCJR(Koean Association of Public Safety and Criminal Justice Review), KPSR(Korean Police Studies Review), KCR(Korean Criminological Review), CR(Correction Review), and KPAR(Korean Public Administration Review). From those journals, research articles were the target of this study. In the KAPSCJR and KPSR, a total of 220 police studies research articles were selected, and 117 from KCR, 92 from CR, 201 from KPAR research articles respectively were examined. Each of the articles selected was analysed for three general sets of attributes. The first set concerns researcher characteristics, such as author's job, number of authors, and funding support. The second set addresses the subject and purpose of the study, and the last concerns research methods, such as data collection methods, the research approach employed, and the statistical techniques used. The main findings of this study are like these ; First, most of the police studies were done by university professors and this shows a marked trend in recent years. Second, while funded researches in the field of police studies have increased recently, the selected disciplines show more frequent funding support. Third, many studies have been done on police administration(27.73%), police reform(22.73%), and police practice(26.82%). Fourth, the purpose of the research police scholars are engaged in is more likely to be conceptual and evaluative rather than to explore bivariate and multivariate relationships between variables. Fifth, secondary data - available materials - dominates the field of police studies and the methodology used is making a transition from descriptive to statistical approach. Finally, nearly 80 percent of empirical articles in the field of police studies used some univariate statistics, while 76% for bivariate, and 36% for multivariate statistics. In conclusion, more rigorous and scientific research by the academic constituents of the police studies should be demanded.
