여성의 성범죄 두려움에 관한 연구

국문 초록

범죄 두려움에 관한 국내외의 논의가 많은 진전을 이룬 것이 사실이나 국내 연구에서는 아직까지 일반적인 범죄 두려움의 원인을 규명하고자 시도할 뿐 여성의 성범죄 두려움에 한정한 연구는 활발하지 않은 편이다. 또한 국내 여성의 성범죄 두려움과 관련한 연구는 주로 여성의 피해 경험과 같은 개인적 수준에서 이루어진 연구나 지역적 특성이라 해도 이를 집합적인 수준이 아닌 개인적 수준에서 측정한 연구가 대부분이다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 여성의 성범죄 두려움과 관련하여 개인과 지역 특성을 통합하는 모델을 구성하여 이러한 특성들이 여성의 성범죄 두려움에 어떻게 영향을 미치는가를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구결과, 지역수준의 변인들로만 설명해 볼 수 있는 최대 변량의 크기는 18.25이며 개인 수준의 변량비는 81.75% 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 여성의 성범죄 두려움은 지역보다는 개인 특성에 훨씬 많은 영향을 받는다는 것을 의미하지만 두려움의 지역차이가 존재하며 이에 영향을 미치는 지역특성을 확인할 필요성을 시사하고 있다. 또한 여성의 성범죄 두려움에 영향을 미치는 개인 특성은 연령, 교육수준, 범죄피해경험이며 지역특성으로는 지역의 경제수준과 물리적ㆍ사회적 무질서인 것으로 나타났다. 지역의 특성에 의해서 조절되는 개인적 특성의 영향력도 확인할 수 있었는데, 개인 변인인 연령은 사회적 무질서와 비공식적 사회통제와 상호작용효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 연령의 효과는 지역의 사회적 무질서와 비공식적 사회통제의 정도에 따라 다르게 나타나는 것으로 확인되었다. 특히, 비공식적 사회통제는 성범죄 두려움에 직접적인 영향력을 미치지는 못하지만 오히려 연령과 상호작용을 하여 성범죄 두려움에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

Although there have been lots of studies on fear of crime at home and abroad, domestic studies have only revolved around identifying the general causes of fear of crime, with little focus on the fear of women over sexual crime. Even the studies related to fear of women over sexual crime were mostly limited to individual level, not a collective level, even when they explored individual aspects such as experience of actual victims and community characteristics. Thus, this study is intended to create and verify a model that combines individual and community characteristics as to fear of women over sexual crime and identify which community characteristics affect such fear through interaction with individual characteristics. The study has revealed the following results. The size of maximum variance, which can be explained only through variables of community level was 18.25, and the variance ratio of individual-level was 81.75%. It suggests that the fear of women over sexual crime is affected by individual characteristics much more than community characteristics. However, there were differences in the level of fear depending on region. Thus, it is necessary to identify the community characteristics that affect such phenomenon. The individual characteristics that affect the fear of women over sexual crime are as follows: age; educational level; crime victim experience. The community characteristics are as follows: economy of region; physical and social disorder. The study also confirmed the influence of individual characteristics that can be adjusted by community characteristics. Age, a individual variable, had an interaction effect with social disorder and unofficial social control. In other words, the effect of age varied depending on the degree of social disorder and unofficial social control. Although unofficial social control had no direct effect on the fear over sexual crime, it did have an effect on the fear through interaction with age.
