노부모 부양경험의 차이에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 비교적 건강한 노부모와 건강이 좋지않은 노부모를 부양하는 성인자녀 부양자에 있어서 그 부양경험의 차이를 밝히는데 있다. 노부모의 인지적ㆍ신체적 장애는 부양자에게 만성적 스트레스를 야기시키는 것으로 보고, 이는 부양인식, 대응, 부모와의 관계에 있어 부양자 집단간 차이를 결과하는 것으로 예측하였다. 조사대상은 건강이 좋은 노부모를 부양하는 성인자녀 57명과 건강이 나쁜 노부모를 부양하는 성인자녀 59명이었다. 연구 결과, 부양인식, 대응, 부모와의 관계에서 두 부양자 집단간 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 건강이 좋은 노부모의 부양자들은 건강이 좋지 않은 노부모의 부양자들 보다 노부모 부양 상황을 더 긍정적으로 인식하였고, 적극적 대응과 회피 대응 모두 적게 사용하였다. 또한, 부양자들은 부모가 건강이 좋지 않은 경우보다 노부모가 비교적 건강할 경우 노부모와 더 친밀한 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

This study focused on differences of family caregiving experiences in caregivers with well-functioning older parents and caregivers with impaired older parents. The presence of older parents' impairment was considered to be a chronic stressor for caregivers and was expected to differentiate caregiver groups on various factors related to caregiving experiences. The sample consisted of two groups, 57 caregivers of well-functioning older parents and 59 caregivers of impaired older parents. Significant differences were found in perceptions, coping, and relationships with parents between caregivers for well-functioning older parents and caregivers for impaired older parents. Compared to caregivers of impaired parents, caregivers of well-functioning parents viewed caregiving as more positive and used fewer coping strategies in both active and avoidance coping. Caregivers reported more emotional closeness to their older parents if they were providing care to well-functioning parents. This study highlights the importance of studying different groups when trying to understand the complexity of caregiving.
